Topic: fatal error when searching for songs - Page: 1

Can some 1 please advise me. Whenever I want to search for some tunes to play, I get a FATAL ERROR and it asks me if I want to repair. I have clicked repair and sent report but it always happens especially when I do a specific search and scroll down for certain songs and im concerned as it stops my music from playing and I have to reload the tracks. Not good if im performing live. Thanx in advance

PC Technical Support IS the better place for your question, but now I've already replied to your question once..

Im sorry about that. My reason for that was I placed it in the other section before realizing I should have put it here 1st but im new to this forum so forgive me LOL.

Its a vd error and only does it when I do a particular search. I have taxi rhythem in my database and when I type taxi rhythem in and then scroll down the list, it always does it at the same point (FATAL ERROR) if thats any help.

hmmm.
I'm thinking this might be one of those issues where we need a Teamer..

Havent seen this problem before. I know their was a "search crash bug" at some point, but I think? that was around before basic came out (and it didnt relate to specific searches)..

BTW, which version of VDJ Basic are you running? 6.07? 6.05?

Are you using an external or internal hard drive to store your music? (or both)

Hi, Im using VD 6.07 and have a 500gb laptop drive (seagate) storing my music. It only has 120gb of tunes on it ?

Does this point correspond to the video results of netsearch?

Im using window 7.

All it says is:


A fatal error has occured.

Virtualdj can try to automatically recover from the crash.

Just click on recover and everything should be fine.

Recover or shutdown.

Send report.

I dont use any video

I have no idea what this means but even today I did another search and it happened again

Apparently you have a corrupted cover in one of the id3tag of the listed songs when you search for "taxi rhythem " or a bad cover download

Can you find this corrupted song and send me it. I really need it !!!

Now verify it by going into the config->browser->Cover : tell me which option you have.


then set "Don't search" , and then test again

Hey. Wow. I just done what you said and NO MORE ERROR. Thats great. Unfortunately, I have no idea which one would have caused it and also it has happened on a few other searches but by the time I can see which one caused it, the fatal error would kick in. I will run a load of searches and see how it gets on. Thanx. That has really made my day :) Will report back shortly.

unfortunately I have just had the same problem. I was in a folder searching away and playing some music when all of a sudden, FATAL ERROR pops up again and I had to hit recover shutiing everything. Here is the crash guard report. I done what you asked above but still no luck.

I also just noticed that when I went back into config and browser, the option you told me to set as dont search had gone back to search mode so I think that may have been the problem. Will report back again later :)

VirtualDJ v5.0 is a very old and out of date version of the software. There have been many changes and improvements and bug fixes to the software since then (See http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VirtualDJ_History.html ) - We are now on v7.4.1

Please register your serial number to your account http://www.virtualdj.com/users/edit.html and then upgrade to the latest version: http://www.virtualdj.com/download/updates.html
