I'm starting to think the worst thing about VDJ is the ripping of CD's & DVD's..

My wish is for Atomix to create or purchase a good Ripper and then customize it to work with VDJ..

In my dream world this "Atomix Ripper/Renamer" would :

- rip CD's, DVD's, and CDG, and save thge files with the codec of your choice.. (Flac or mp3 for cd's, & VOB, mpeg, DIVX, etc etc, for DVD)

-populate the correct file name & tags VIA an online database (NOT CDDB or GRACENOTE) that is used strictly by the DJ community.. (Imagine popping in either a CD or DVD compilation and getting the 'artist', 'title', 'bpm', 'key', and 'genre' for EACH individual track!,)

-helps you organize and rename your files.

anyone else?

yeap, that's been requested before.

truth is. you can get all of those for free form www.download.com

cd ripper: cdex

id3 editor: tagscanner
file renamer based on id3 tags: tagscanner

free bpm analyzer: mixmeister free bpm analyzer

free keycode analyzer: mixmeister studio (free trial)

database.. good one.. none come to mind.

I know, but its 'multiple programs' and nothing is 100% aimed for us, the DJ's. I think at one time or another I have tried at least half of them.. some just OK, some great.

nice program (I use it myself), BUT it uses CDDB for its online database (so its just barely adequate for compilation CD's), and useless for DVD's and CDG.

I can't remember if I checked that one out or not? I'm currently using Tag&Rename. does "tagscanner" also write the BPM to the filename?

havent tried it. how much more accurate is it compared to VDJ?
Doesnt VDJ simply rewite the BPM once its loaded?

One of the things I liked about ERG compilation CD's is they gave you the correct BPM on their song list.. (that way if PCDJ's analyzer was WAY off, I would know right from the start.)

which I did try.. Found out it was somehow messing with some of my ID3tags and was inserting weird characters in the comment field..

To me thats the BIG one! :)
Having all the different software rolled into one (and %100 compatible with VDJ) & and the ability to GET the CORRECT information would be awesome..

Basically, all of us VDJ users are doing this anyways (ripping CD's & DVDs & CDG, Then fixing tags and adding DJ related info like bpms and keys and genres), Wouldnt it be great if we could simply all pool this work into one online database..

I should mention:

If Atomix built a pro DJ ripper/renamer and 'DJ only Database', I betcha they could start selling it for good $$ (once the database got big enough to be usefull)

I know many DJ's who have spent good $$ buying multiple programs and in reality non of them are built for the average DJ.. (biggest problem is most of them rely on CDDB or Gracenote)

P.S. Two of the functions I forgot to include, is this 'super software' :)
-should also be able to look for duplicates! (in video and Audio)
-should also convert mp3+CDJ to a zip file.

Over time, CDex has impressed me more and more.. Though I think I read somewhere that its not being updated anymore?

I'm happy too see VDJ has really improved on both of these.. Now the ability to put that information permanently in the ID3 tags would bge nice.

Why DJ's havnt begged for this? I dont know.. Especially because we are going thru the exact same thing with videos..

Give me a bundled ripper & renamer (built to work with VDJ) and an online DATABASE built for DJ's (and not a bunch of yahoo's that can't spell or dont care) and this would be GOLD to me!

believe me it has been requested on numerous occasions and i'm sure if i can remember rightly it has been promised to go on the to do list, it's priority rating will depend on current work load i suppose...
