PC Transfer To A New Computer

How to transfer VirtualDJ 7 from a Windows computer to a new Windows Computer

You can install VirtualDJ on your new computer by simply downloading it again from the Download Center.

If you intend to sell, give away or dispose of your old computer, you must remove VirtualDJ from it first. If you are keeping your old computer, then you may optionally keep VirtualDJ installed on it as a backup. Please see: Can I install the software on a new computer or more than one computer

All database information (BPM, comments, etc.) for songs on your internal hard disk are stored in your VirtualDJ Database file in My Documents\VirtualDJ

Providing that you copy your music collection into EXACTLY the same location with the same folder structure on your new computer, then you can then simply install VirtualDJ and copy across your VirtualDJ database file.

For example, if your music is in C:\Tunes on your old computer, it needs to be C:\Tunes on your new one. Otherwise, you will need to edit the database file in a text editor (E.g: Notepad) and use search & replace to replace the old paths with the new ones, e.g: Replace C:\Music with C:\Tunes. Make sure that you make a backup copy of your database first, in case you make a mistake.

You can also optionally copy across your playlists and tracklisting history, which you will also find in My Documents\VirtualDJ along with any custom plugins and skins that you have installed.

If you store your music within your user home folder (My Documents) then you will need create a user on your new computer with EXACTLY the same name and then copy your music to the same location on the new computer.

If you use any external hard drives, these have their own separate local database, so you do not need to anything with these (Unless you are transferring to a Mac, which cannot write to PC NTFS formatted external drives without installing special 3rd party software.)

Playlists and history are stored in the folders VirtualDJ\Playlists and VirtualDJ\Tracklisting respectively. You can copy these across to your new computer, but you may need to manually edit the paths to the music if it is not located in the same location. As above, you can do this by opening each file in a text editor and then using search & replace to replace the old path with the new path.

Plugins such as skins and effects are stored in VirtualDJ\Skins and VirtualDJ\Effects respectively. If you have installed custom skins and/or plugins, you can copy these across to the appropriate folders on your new computer.
