I saw that b9480 added the coloredWaveformsDynamicStems option, which sets up colored waveforms to show stem volume level changes.
However, I have some comments/questions:
However, I have some comments/questions:
- The setting only works if the EQ mode for the channel is set to a stem-based mode
While this does make sense, I think the users who originally made the request were actually looking for stem changes to be visualized in all EQ modes, not just stems ones.
This is what happens in Serato (AFAIK Serato doesn't have a global Stems EQ mode, it just has it as a feature on certain controllers) - in Serato, the frequency EQ adjustments show the changes as well (I assume they may be using specifics of the filter for each knob or using a default filter/stem assumption for each knob to know how to adjust the stem display). - This new setting changes the color of the presets to be something different
For instance, I am using ultra-blue here as the value of coloredWaveforms, EQs all at the middle position:
If I change coloredWaveformsDynamicStems to yes or minimal, and leave the song choice, song position and EQ positions the same, then it suddenly changes to:
Why the change?

Same, I'm not even using stems or touching the EQ and when i load a new track the colors change, which is kind of distracting. I would prefer the same behavior as in Serato where the color of the frequencies mute (gray) on EQ and adding to stems behavior, only the active stems should appear, making muted stem waves "invisible"

With "minimal" option you only see the corresponding stem.
For example if you select vocal stem, you should see the green or dark blue vocal stem and nothing else.

I am not sure to understand the issue to be honest. Is it only when you load a new song? Can you share your different vdj options to have the same config as yours?

Are you talking about the waveform refresh not instant when you change params? I mean you need to move the jog a bit to update the waveform color after "coloredWaveform" change?

For me, on launch of VDJ if I load a track the kick drums are red on load, then it changes to white. No stems, no EQ activated

So the latter issue is saying - I've selected a colored waveform scheme, with the new option set to no, and it displays a certain way. If I just switch the new option on (new or minimal doesn't matter), that same waveform selection now displays differently - I'm just asking why, given all stems are at regular value (on), and no EQ adjustments were made (freq, stems or otherwise). The idea I had was, given all stems are active, and no adjustments were made via EQ, the waveform should look exactly as it did before the new option was switched on, and then if stem/EQ changes are made, we should see coloring/highlighting differences.
I'm pretty sure that's what @listen2 is saying/expecting as well.

i use the as ( yes ) and it removes the colors only with the eq stems or the buttons but not with the stem effects as once the stems effect are on the wave colors stay intact

The coloredWaveformsDynamicStems currently indeed only works with stem-based waveform colors, and in that case the colors are identical to the ones used when the option is turned off.
If you have waveUseFrequency enabled, that option is indeed currently ignored, which is why you see the colors change when switching coloredWaveformsDynamicStems.
It could indeed be possible to make the option work when waveUseFrequency is enabled as well, but respond to equalizer changes instead of stem changes.
Any effects are indeed applied independent of waveforms, so effects don't affect the waveform.

I would honestly prefer Dynamic colors on the EQ frequencies rather than stems, but it would be cool if there was some middle ground that does both. I guess the odd part of VDJ is the wave colors have different display options, so it depends on the user as to what they like.
i prefer the neutral

This feature was requested because of stems not because of eq nobs and u can use even just one nob and it all changes (sound color nob using vocals) so the feature works perfectly if ur a stem user no need for any change according to my workflow

Nobody said the feature was requested because of EQ knobs.
I'm saying if you are doing the full comparison to what happens in Serato (which is what you and other users besides you have done), that's one of the things that's missing, just as you are saying stem pad changes are missing (your workflow isn't necessarily the only workflow that's being addressed here).

In the next update, coloredWaveformsDynamicStems will also be compatible with waveUseFrequency, in which case it will show low/mid/high eq changes instead of stems changes.
Also, Echo Out and VinylBrake when applied to stems will mute the specific stems, so that their changes are also visually present on the waveform when coloredWaveformsDynamicStems is on (and waveUseFrequency is off)

Excellent @Adion...thanks you and the rest of the development tram once again for all the great work being put in to produce these updates (and so quickly as well) and your continued patience with us 🍺.

Minor question - when the new option is on and waveUseFrequency is enabled, does the waveform show the combination of stem and frequency EQ actions, or is one chosen in preference?
I guess with most stem pads it's on (enabled, no boost/cut)/off, so it most likely would be more finely controlled by EQ changes (stem or frequency), given the relevant stem(s) is/are enabled?
