Topic: Special question for all the pros !
My music was previously stored on two hard drives, each with 4 TB of capacity.
VDJ has saved the folders, database.xml, and extra.db on each of these hard drives.

Now I only have a new 8TB hard drive left!

How can I migrate the existing data from the two small hard drives to the new large hard drive?

i you do the copying inside of virtual dj the 2 databases will get merged on the new drive

 
Alternatively, you could create 2 partitions on the new Drive and keep the 2 HD structure and even the same old Drive letters. This <- might be useful if you have old M3U playlists with "static" links
 
Create a database backup with the 2 hard drives, then copy your music to the new hard drive, then do a database restore
 
First of all don’t move anything. If you have all drives connected and the tracks have all the cues and all the usual meta data applied, then you can do it the way vdj wants you to. You move the files or duplicate to the new drive in question.
Don’t be fooled by vdj recognizing tracks in a different location, as it uses the file structure to recognise tracks, but until it has been done the correct way you can run into issues later.
Also always change meta data in vdj. Once it’s imported unless you refresh it will not recognise id3 tags being changed in iTunes.
The way vdj works is a database on each root drive tracks are stored on.
These are not previous databases that are left from previous installs etc.
This is the next important part. If things are mixed up, you will have to combine databases by copying the info yourself. But you have to change the root location info.
1. Don’t change anything, make sure you have all database files.
2. Unify the root details just so when you combine they can be searched and replaced to correct info together.
3. Create a dummy import of tracks on the new drive. That will let you know how vdj has chosen to address it.
4. It may look right but only when no errors are thrown up, does it mean you are running a standard vdj database file.
5. Do this asap, otherwise you will end up with duplicate info some of which maybe identical or may have been updated, but you don’t want to be going through it’s all.
6. Make your cues and meta details clearly your input and not an auto vdj action.
7. Vdj also used to import iTunes playlists and in the past star rankings etc were exclusive to itunes.
8. Vdj and iTunes use different fields to label genre etc depending on file format.
9. Make sure you have mastered this process and fully understand it. Turn off any auto generating data, auto gain is kool and essential but the rest should be your responsibility, otherwise you will be asking a similar issue in the near future.

There is no chance of achieving what I described above.
I’ve spent two whole days trying all sorts of things, but it just isn’t working!!!
 
What didn't work after restoring the backup?
 
For every drive, VDJ creates directories such as "D:/VirtualDJ/..." and "E:/VirtualDJ/..." to store various data. However, the backup process only saves one drive and ignores the others; consequently, only the first drive is restored, leaving the contents of the "E:/VirtualDJ/..." drive unrecovered.
 
That shouldn't be the case, the databases from all connected drives are used to create the backup file.
What makes you think the backup didn't include all information?
 
Never had any issues combining databases from separate drives. Works as it should every time.
 
All my entries from drive D: are present and correct,
but the entries from drive E: (User 1, User 2, Rating) and so on are missing.
 
you can do it manually, by copying the data from all the seperate databases and place them all in one database. first of all make a dummy one in the drive that everything will be in. this way you can see how vdj is going to label the root so as to identify the files and where they are. I say to do it this way because for some reason the way you think it should be by looking at previous ones is not the case. As vdj is suffering from a windows method and labels the drive some random letter instead of what it should logicaly be.
Now change every database to the same label before merging them. this way you can do a find and replace with the correct root label.
alternatively, you can add each set of tracks in turn, that way you will have a database that is labeled right so you just have to merge.
you are probaly doing everything right it's just going to be a small tweak.
if you want I can do a video or something. I have spent ages working out how to do it,
