Bloody hell again .... I just paid £259.99 for a pair of Pioneer ones (which are excellent BTW) but that's just pure overkill in the extreme!

Well you have to treat yourself every now and then mate :)
I think I'll stick to my Sennheiser's HD25 SP

That's not really a bad price when you consider the fact those old vacuum tubes can also be used to keep your "after work" PIZZA HOT!
My father worked on antique radios (among other electronic things) and he loved those old vacuum tubes, he said we don't need no stinking transistors!

Yeah, I think I'll stick to my $230 Allen & Heaths, besides, I already have a weighted head-harness for building the muscles in my neck, it just doesn't have aural/sonic capabilities!

The amp in my bedroom is an old tube amp. This time of year I leave that amp on, instead of turning on the furnace too early. Renee' is right those tubes get way, way, way, hot....

This is for the audio Enthusiast. My step dad loves this type of equipment. His amp is Made by Krell and he uses Martin Loga speakers. Tube amps give the best sound and they are expensive.

Completely agree! A transistor-based amp won't touch the sonic capabilities of a tube amp.
Your dad has good taste!! ;-)

Thats the hight of nonsense.
If for no other reson than the EL34 valves used in that headphone amp are the same as is used in the Marshal 100W Guitar amps as used by Slash and his pals, I wonder if the volume control goes to eleven. Bet it sounds nice but you would need 20 grands worth of kit to do it justice.
Fun if your loaded.

Nice! Yea I have a Krell surround system with Vienna Acoustic speakers and a Velodyne sub. I am HUGE into home theater and that is where I started. I kind of like DJ gear because it is so cheap. Just my center channel is worth more than my JBL PRX 515s (my DJ speakers) and it does not even come with an amp. I will say that knowing what refference sounds like, really helps when setting up sound at gigs.
I am not really a tube fan (for what I listen to) but they do sound great. McIntosh makes some of the best tube amps I have ever heard. But $5k almost gets you nothing in the high end market. Try looking at the Krell MRA mono block amps. They weigh 600lbs, half ohm stable at 16,000 watts and will set you back about $120,000. All to power 1 speaker (so you will need a pair, minimum).
Anyone who claims that a solid state amp will never touch the sound of a tube amp, really needs to listen to a good class A solid state amp. No offense, but Krell, Moon, Lamm Industries, Theta Digital make great sounding amps.
I never intended for my living room to go this far, but I have fianlly stopped after exceeding the value of my wife's new Acura by a few thousand. I love it though and use it everyday. It probably gets more use in 1 week than her car dose. Just think about how long you spend driving and then how long you spend watching TV / movies (before you call me all kinds of names:).
