Topic: Replacing Numark CDX with (Insert favoriteTCCD Setup)

I've had it with Numark CDX - Worked good - 1 Drive quit working during a demo (would'nt read the Timecode) Numark says it the drive needs to be replaced.

I like the vinyl feel without the tone arm... What do you recommend as a replacement - looking at Technics DM 1200- Ideas?

so you going to switch to vinyl or you wanting cd again....
 
i like the Timecoded CD setup so Im looking for Turntables with a cd drive and motorized torque (to scratch with)

are you talking about the SL-DZ1200? allot of Djs dont recommend these. To each their own.

Why do you want the physical timecode?

Denon players will do exactly what a timecode CD does, but over much more reliable HID interface.. plug and play with VirtualDJ.
(controls VirtualDJ without having to put a timecode CD in...)

The 3700s players features a high motorized torque rotating platter on top, with even a vinyl there, giving a real vinyl feel

In addition it plays regular CDs', external drives etc






Atlernatively the Numark NS7
Also plug n play with VirtualDJ (but does not play real cds..)
Has motorized torque and feel of vinyls
 
I have the denon 3700s and the platter feels great. I was able to figure out how to make the platter very smooth with no drag.
 
Alternatively just buy some replacement cd drives for your CDX - they're only $100 each now - I carry a spare to every gig and have another at home in reserve ;) I find they last about 6-12 months under serious gigging conditions. Also pull your decks apart and resolder and tighten all the earths. That is the main problem with these decks. Most repair places will swap boards, etc because they dont really know what they're doing and think that fixes it because as they swap the circuit board they also tighten the earth, when they could have just fixed the earth straps.

As for what actually goes wrong with the cd drive itself, I havent a clue but my suspicion is that the plastic threads that drive the laser get worn. It is not the actual laser because I have tried swapping that and it didnt help.

Fact is that there is no replacement as good as the CDX if you want true vinyl feel - shame the build quality is so shite.

Hey i went to go look at 2 used ones that a local dj was selling cheap this morning - $250 USD each or $450 for both... They looked very nice.
I started talking to him, about music and the problems with the CDX. Low and behold he admitted that both SL-DZ1200 's acted 'quirky' on a regualr basis. His replacements were none other than (2) numark CDX's - lol

That Denon Setup looks nice Ill have to demo them myself before I commit to buy.
