@pseft The xoticpc site will install the SSD if you buy it from them on the customization page choose:

Primary HD: 90GB OCZ Vertex 2
Secondary HD: 750GB 7200RPM 16MB

This will cost a little more than if you did it yourself but it will make sure that everything is ready to go when you get it.

While you are at it I would go ahead and add the extra 4GB of RAM for $35 to get to 16GB
16GB DDR3 1333MHz
- you may not need it but RAM prices are historically low right now and it will be good future proofing for the cost.

Total cost with those changes from xoticpc ends up $1420 or $1380 with their "cash discount"

If you have the skills to add the SSD yourself you could probably do the RAM and SSD upgrade for $150 on top of the $1150 for the PC so $1300 but there would be some time involved.


I have no experience with logic but it seems to be MAC specific in the current version. I beleive teh windows alternative is Ableton live but I do not use those types of programs - I am sure that someone who does will chime in
 
what ever one you can afford. but like someone said above. macs use intell parts ? so you kan get maxed out specs on your dell laptop like i did and pay way less $ for the same guts. your just paying for the dumb apple logo on the front so you kan be like other fan boys

ableton is the one i was trying to think of... doh!

if im gonna go 16 i mite as well go 32 so everything can be super fast, the more ram the better would it b for music.

wen u say cash is that transfer money from bank to bank
 
32GB of RAM would honestly be a waste of money - the denser RAM chips are so much more expensive and the likely-hood of ever using more than 16GB is so low I could not in good conscious recommend it unless you know for a fact you will need that much - even many 3D modeling and CAD programs will not use more than 16GB.

Going from 12gb -> 16GB cost $37

Going from 12GB - > 32GB costs $1300

I can't imagine that being a good value for you :)

I love how Asus always includes a backpack with their laptops, its the little things that count, lol! I love mine, I call it the "MAC Killer", lmao!!

my mate is trying hard to make me go to mac but ASUS is pretty awesome, 2 yrs iv had this and only 1 small glitch i had was with my sound.
only coz i went from vista to W7 and ther arnt correct drivers, but i manged

No experience with MACs really

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit has been rock solid for the last few years for me. Best OS I have ever used.

g53sw-fhd-sz 143v this is the one we have in australia and G53 SX A1 they dont seem to have.
 
Wow I knew you guys got screwed on pricing sometimes, but remember I said my business has customers that buy from us and have things shipped to Australia and it is still cheaper than buying local? This is a great example.

That laptop is priced at $1700 for "local" purchase in Australia

I priced the exact same configuration on xoticpc.com and it was $1200 + $150 shipping = $1350

I am not sure about import taxes but I know there is a free trade agreement between USA and Australia so import duties should be minimal.

That means you would save $350 buying from the USA and having it shipped !

I am guessing the specialized configuration we talked about would run you $2000+ if you could find it local.

Gotta love a global economy - I just did a similar thing ordering a tablet computer direct from China - got it for $200 including international express shipping and a similar model in the USA was selling for $499
 
iv gone through the specks and most stuff i dont kno what ill need on lappy for DJ use that is. im not much of a pc gammer im more XBOX or ps3, COD, FIFA
 
I you want to add the SSD and move the operating system over to it do I have to have the OS install CD's. Do those usually come with latops purchased at a place like Best Buy?
I have only purchased from Dell direct and they have all come with the reinstall CD's
Seems like it could get tedious to move the OS and drivers over to the SSD but it would be better to do it in the begining before I add software.
 
You can use a program like Clonezilla to make a copy of the HDD. Then exchange the discs and you should be ready to go.
 

Kingston SSD and any Seagate HD (and Western Digital and others) have their own CLONE software to help you do this transition. I have upgrade my laptop since I got it. It comes with 120GB and place a 250GB, then I change it to a 500GB and now I have a 96GB SSD and keep the 500GB in a small case to add it to my setup.

Laptop works faster with the SSD and the 500GB have room for pictures and other stuff. I have my regular 1TB music HD and my 3TB videos and karaoke ones.

Adding a SSD could give some lifetime to your laptop.
 
I had my MacBook Pro for about 2 years and so far I've been happy with the purchase. I had easier time setting up RMX than using my old toshiba laptop. The OS is definitely what makes the setups a lot easier in my opion.
 
Thanks for the info on the SSD and the clone software. I have done that with a second hard drive with XP but was unsure if it would work with windows 7 pro.
