for example I bought the last NOW album all the tracks are approx 3.30 long and are no bigger than any other files I have checked through the properties and they don't seem any different but they are loading like 30 minute files

This is probably because they are variable bit rate (VBR) files - Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Variable%20Bitrate%20VBR%20Files.html
