I know this sounds crazy but I wouldn't mind supporting the VDJ team by paying a reasonable price ($49.00 ~ $149.00) for VDJ8.
It seems that VDJ8 is a substantial update which is independent of VDJ7 meaning that there is nothing wrong with VDJ7 that the Atomix teams needs to appease us with an free update.
I do this with my other professional software including my OS's why not reward Atomix for their hard work? You don't DJ for free do you? If you complete Sarah's wedding you don't DJ her sisters wedding for free do you?
Why would I want to pay for my update? Paid updates at reasonable intervals and fess helps to keep a good company healthy for the long term so they can continue to create great products for us rather than being a one or two hit wonder and fizzing out.
It might allow them to increase their software development and support team allowing them to provide updates and application faster as well as resolve issues faster.
Based on the features you have seen and the promises of better quality you have heard would you invest say $99.00 toward a product that supports you business?
Cheers.

Now they have you on the "Charge for Update" list. I think you're the only one.
So when VDJ8 comes, everyone gets the FREE updates and they will charge for updates whoever on the list "YOU" only. :)
Don't feel bad when you're the only one getting the special treatment.

The free updates is one of the reasons I went ahead and upgraded (for me $199) from LE to the Pro version. Even at that discounted price, without the free upgrades I probably would have opted for something else.

Lol, you are joking? when all those people are using crack copies!!! not a chance.
Inviato Mon 29 Jul 13 @ 4:30 pm
What's that you say? A one-off, up-front charge, is that? Free updates for life, you say? Well, colour me impressed, where do I sign up?
Oh...
Did I do that already..? Thank you again, Atomix, as sound (no pun intended) investments go...
Yes, Sonisphere. What you're saying does indeed sound crazy.

Now that I am the only one paying for the wares could I have copy of vdj8 now?
Inviato Mon 29 Jul 13 @ 6:17 pm
I have a number of pro copies, (I only need one) at this time, that is how I support Atomix, I invite you or anyone else who feels the urge to financially support Atomix to buy an additional program.
Having supported Atomix buy purchasing additional programs I would think it unfortunate to have to pay to upgrade each one, but would be happier about a per user fee covering all copies owned by the same user.
Don't forget Atomix is now charging for additional features anyway, by way of premium memberships and the music, karaoke, video content packages, which extracts revenue from all users subscribed to those services including NLUs.
It would not surprise me to see this business model extended to other features???

Why should you pay for the upgrade/Update?
Virtual Dj Pro License is much more expensive than other Dj Softwares by some reason.
If you want to buy other Dj Software its really cheaper but you only get a license to that version and some updates, neves upgrades.
Its just a way of thinking

Honesty, besides the bashing you've seen already:
1) It has been stated by Atomix that VirtualDJ 8 will be a FREE update for all Professional Edition Users. It would be really bad business to brake that statement and start charging for V8.
2) If you feel the need to support Atomix financially there are several other ways you can do so... Buy a monthly subscription plan (Atomix gets a percentage of the total amount) or buy another product. You could buy VDJ Broadcaster for $49 or VDJ PRO Basic for $149. Finally you could also support Atomix by promoting the software (word of mouth is the best advertisement) or by convincing a user/friend that uses a pirated version to purchase a valid license!

I can actually see how the company could benefit from charging for updates, and even benefit the user in the long run. However, selfishly I must admit that I don't wanna lose the free updates, even with paying work I have to budget every dollar & VDJ has allowed me to stay current without interfering with my lunch money. Now if only I didn't have to pay for updates from Sonar, Magix & Vegas I'd be set!!!

I certainly won't download any updates, till after a year passes. Let them get all the bugs out.

Thanks for sharing. We were just sitting around wondering when NasvilleSound was going to upgrade. We can all sleep better now, with that info.

I just hope it is released before the second coming ... lol
Yes I know it will be released when its ready and not before,
and i'm sure the team is working overtime to get it ready as soon as possible. ;)
