It is not running, and task manager does not have it running. It was actually closed awhile ago, over an hour. What's my next step?

In the case you run windows ...:
Kill remaining task - mainly waiting for network answer forever - from "Resource monitor"
Open Resources Monitor
i.e. from Task manager, tab "Performance"
bottom right : open resources monitor
or by "Start Menu" in "Windows Administrative Tools" -> "Resource Monitor."
or typing resmon.exe /res
...
in Resource Monitor:
tab CPU
sort by processes in reverse order by clicking column "processes"
scroll down to virtualdj*
right click virtualdj* and select "End process tree"
if that fails select "End process"

I have had the same problem, try to reset settings.xml file (save a copy as backup first ;) and start over with a clean program.
Then do one tweak at a time and restart vdj and you will see what will cause the problem.
