VDJ will see a controller that hasn't been officially added yet? Can I configure it myself in mapping ? Or in addition to mapping in the VDJ itself, do you need to add code to the program?

For very basic midi controllers with just buttons and sliders you can map them directly from within the controllers tab in options, the same way as you would map a keyboard.
For anything more advanced with led feedback, jog wheels and maybe special types of sliders you need to create a definition file first:
