Discussion about Send-NDI

@Adion please also create for 32 bit
Inviato Thu 21 Jul 22 @ 10:10 am
Would like to see a Tutorial on both Send and Retrive-NDI.
And if it is working great, I would also like it for 32 bit.
What is the latency of this on a good network, say for example 100 meter Cat6 cable on a gigabit router.

A 32-bit version is not planned.
As for how to use it, you simply activate Send-NDI as master video effect, and then VirtualDJ should show up as a source in your other NDI-enabled application on the same computer or network.

Sorry to hear that :(
I still really like to use 32 bit version with all older plugins etc.
Little curious about the retrivers.
Do we need another computer or what do we need to get it to work on ex. projectors or TVs.
Can we retrive on OBS?

That disappoints me very much if there is no 32 bit version!!
How can I persuade you to do it??

I'm not personally familiar with what other software and hardware supports NDI, but you can have a look here:
https://www.ndi.tv/tools/
It looks like hardware NDI-receivers exist, so I guess you could use these to connect to a remote tv.

I tried to connect through 2 computers with VDJ 64 bit on both.
One send and other retrive without any luck.
Geuss this needs some more input how to do (I am not a newbie ;)

On both the network connection is set as private?

As I said, would be nice with a tutorial ;)

I have used NDI Send 3 times already.
I used it with my laptop and main club visuals computer running on the same network via wired gigabit connections.
The process was quite easy:
Start VirtualDJ
Enable Video Engine
Start NDI Send
On the other computer:
Start computer
Start Resolume
Click on "Sources" tab
You should see a "line" (tab) with NDI sources. The tab appears only when Resolume detects NDI streams on network.
Drag "VirtualDJ" on an empty bank.
Activate it.
Done!
Latency was quite good in my case. I didn't measure it, but it was definitely less than 100ms (where it starts to get slightly noticeable)
Finally keep in mind that total latency also depends on what kind of output you use on the "main" computer.
Main club visuals computer drives some led panel displays (Novastar) via HDMI. Not the best option latency wise.
SDI would be much better.
However since the latency isn't noticeable and since this isn't a surgeon doing a surgery via looking at a display, I believe it will cover most user needs.
Finally AFAIK, VLC and OBS also support NDI. For OBS you need to install an extension (at least in order to send out it's screen via NDI to another host like VirtualDJ)
PS: I have also tried NDI Send in my home with host computer running on wired lan and laptop over wi-fi and it was also working fine. However since it was just a test and not a real usage case I can't tell how good or stable it would be over long term usage (mostly because of wi-fi bandwidth / coverage)

This is excellent. Having NDI plugged into VDJ is awesome. Works as expected into OBS. Thank you.

How to increase the resolution above 852x480 ?
Inviato Mon 19 Sep 22 @ 7:19 pm
Either change the resolution (size) of the video window, or make the video window full screen, or select "preview only" by right clicking on the master video window on the main GUI.
Inviato Wed 21 Sep 22 @ 7:14 am
It would be ideal if we could send HD (720p or 1080p) content via NDI without opening a new VDJ video window. ;-)
Inviato Tue 04 Oct 22 @ 2:04 pm
If no video window is opened I think it follows the recordVideoResolution option, so you can already do that :)

YESSS!!! :-) "recordVideoResolution" is the option.
Thank you Adion!
My next big question:
Is it possible receive/send NDI videos with alpha channel?
