I don't notice any difference between slicer in regular mode vs hold mode as described in the manual: https://www.virtualdj.com/manuals/hardware/reloop/touch/layout/pads/slicer.html. Can someone point to a video or explain in detail what I should hear differently with hold?

I actually have this same question. I don't understand what is observably different when the manual states "slices are memorized (using the last triggered ones)." My interpretation is that it would play the same sample while shift is held continuously, but as soon as the 8 pads pass the original pad then plays the sound contained within the current 8 pad segment and not the one it was originally used on. Can someone explain this more clearly?
