Topic: VDJ Stems issues on Alienware M15
Hi guys,

I just installed VDJ on brand new laptop Alienware M15 R7 and stems are processed very slow ( a 3:55 song in about 4:25) ... it's drive me crazy :((( I have installed the latest drivers and the system is up to date. What can be the issue? This are the system specs:

System Model: Alienware m15 R7
Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 19045)
Processor: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H (14 CPUs), ~2.3GHz
Memory: 32768MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 32452MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU
Display Memory: 24257 MB
Dedicated Memory: 8031 MB
Shared Memory: 16226 MB
Current Mode: 2560 x 1440 (32 bit) (240Hz)

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot!

Update the RTX graphics card drivers to the latest version and make sure don't use GPU is unticked in settings. You can also make sure the laptop is using the correct card in the control panel.

Sounds like it's using the CPU.

Thanks for your quick reply, I have the latest driver from NVidia website and don't use GPU is unchecked, also the Xe video card is disabled from BIOS as well ... I wonder if there is any difference between Game Ready Driver and Studio Driver for VDJ because now I have the Game Ready version.

make sure your power profile is set to high performance

Everything is maxed out but seems to be the NVidia driver, the last version is not always the best (at least for Alienware M15 R7) I installed the version from Dell website and the steam processing time was reduced to almost 2 mins, the music format will make any difference? I use FLAC now and I wonder if the same song in mp3 format will be processed faster?

For that GPU you should process in 20 to 25 seconds

Hmm, so far I couldn't make it faster than 1:47 for a 3.57 song, definitely something is not ok, I also contacted Dell and they said the M15 R7 was made for Win 11 not Win 10, could that be an incompatibility issue or just BS on their side? I am afraid if I switch to Win 11 I will face other issues like VDJ stability or others :(((

Windows 10 and 11 are almost identical but I think from a DJ perspective 10 is better.

There's definitely something amiss.

If it came with Windows 11 installed (something you didn't mention in your first post) then you shouldn't have downgraded.

No problems using Windows 11 here for DJing.

I finally was able to install a fresh Windows 11 Home with all the drivers up to date, the system is set to performance (plugged in, not on battery) ... everything maxed out. A 3:15 song (FLAC) was processed in 49 sec. definitely a much better result BUT still slower compared with my Alienware desktop - Win10 (i7 - GeForge GTX 1070 ) same song, same file, 29 seconds ... I noticed that my desktop processing percentage is changing 6% at the time (or per second) and my laptop 4% so definitely slower ... GTX 1070 has 4Gb and RTX 3070ti has 8Gb) ... what could be the problem?

The RTX3070Ti should decode stems at around 20x so for a 3 minute track should take say 10 seconds.

I had a RTX3080Ti previously and it calculated at 28x in balanced mode and 32.5x in performance mode.

Definitely something not right there.

I also noticed in Task Manager that dedicated GPU is 4.3/8.0GB and during the stems processing is using max 53%, is that normal? GPU is not using more than 4.3GB

Yeah, it uses other processes on the card so the actual GPU use shown isn't that high.

remove nvidia software just keep the driver.

The only thing that I have is the Nvidia Control Panel, nothing else. They have 2 different drivers on their website , Game version and Studio version or something like that, is that matter for VDJ?

Not in my experience. I tried both previously but never seen any difference.

PROBLEM SOLVED: I switched back to Windows 10 , cleaned all the preinstalled garbage (debloat)... all the drivers up to date including NVidia (Game Version), changed stemsGPU from Auto to NVidia and now a 4:06 song is processed in 22 seconds! Time to party now! :))) Thanks again guys for your help!
