hi.
i have downloaded the free version to mess around with at home.
i cant seem to get a usb soundcard to work. to monitor earphones while something playing on laptop speakers.
any advice

Possibly you're thinking of using an external mixer, which does require a license.
Using a second interface to enable master & headphone outputs can be done with any version.
