Topic: Denon Prime Go+ and Engine questions
Hi, I'm thinking about picking up a Prime Go+ as a backup and ceremonies and for couch DJing. It looks like it integrates with VDJ really well.

My question is in standalone-mode, if Engine accesses my VDJ music folder on Dropbox can it mess up my music files (i.e. change my beatgrids or cues, POI's, or anything that VDJ uses)? I don't know how much of this stuff is proprietary or DJ software.

Also, curious if any Prime Go users here have any thoughts on the quality. I think the size is perfect for my needs.
Thanks!

I don't use Dropbox but both Engine and VDJ keep their own databases so there should be nothing messed up in the actual files themselves.

It's a solid controller, well built and sounds great. Integration with VDJ is very good. Only downside is lack of EQ for the mics but that's a well known thing anyway.

If you have any other questions ask away as I use my one both on the Engine side and with VDJ.

Does this mean that I need two identical music folders or is there a DB file that each software has? I assume that my cues and grids are all encoded in the mp3. Is this not correct?

No, the cues, grids etc are either kept in the VirtualDJ database.xml (which is stored on the VDJ home folder on your PC) or the Engine Database folder on your Engine drive whether that's a SD card, pen drive, portable SSD etc.

Both softwares read the artist, title, year etc. from the file tag then that is added to the database of each software. VDJ and Engine keep entirely separate databases with cues, grids etc not in the MP3 itself.

Engine is quite quirky and there are several ways of using it to achieve what you want depending on your file structure etc.

Personally I feel it's better to decide if you want to use standalone or VDJ as it's a fair bit of work maintaining both.

As I said I'm not familiar with using a Dropbox drive as I've always felt having the physical files there is a better and more reliable way of working.

I didn't know that. I have often downloaded songs with the hotcues already inserted, so I assumed VDJ must read/write them to the MP3 tag. I learned something new!

,

So, is there a way to export cues and grid info from VDJ to Engine?

I'm a VDJ user. I just want the Engine for standalone to do small events like ceremonies, cocktails, etc, and as a backup if my laptop stops working at a gig. Couch DJing would be using the Prime Go as a controller for my laptop.

Dropbox maintains a physical file on your hard drive and updates any changes you make across platforms. Most of the time I never even know I'm using it. You CAN opt to just keep some files online only, but that's not the default. Plus if I have a harddrive crash, or my computer is stolen, or my house burns down, everything is backed up in the dropbox cloud. I highly recommend it.
