Topic: distorted sound after time passes????

I'm using version 2.1 with 2 diamond DT 588 sound cards my system is p4 1.6 , 256 ddr ram. The sound starts out clear then degrades to distortion after an hour or so ,any help would be appreciated, DJRJ------VACATIONLAND CANADA

Check your gains, when it starts to get distorted it could be because you have enabled auto level in the options menu but your songs have not all been properly calculated for the level and after time the gain continues to raise with each new song that is loaded.

its not the config setting, maybe its a resource thing or a sound card thing with xp pro ?????
 
Also is there any way to stop atomixmp3 from jacking up the soundcard levels at each start-up?, thanks, DJRJ
 
Yes it is. Set enable multi-instance.-

coco, multi-instance is for multiple players nothing else..
 
No thats not true, the author of Atomix has told us that enabling multi-instance prevents atomix from turning the sound up all the way. DJ Coco is right.

Exactly: if you use multiple instances (or several different music-proggies) you do NOT want the master/wave-volume to be changed whenever you start Atomix, that would mean major confusion and volume-chocks if your 'puter froze and you have to restart one or two applications.

The Multiple instances-setting DOES leave the volume-settings alone.. try it before you start saying otherwise.

As for the degraded soundquality over time could be a result of the mentioned problems with auto-level/gain and if you mean over a span of several hours of constant MP3-shuffling it COULD be due to increased memory-usage over time or general PC/hardware-stuff like that..
Such a small thing as severly fragmented MP3-files could be the cause of this too if the system isn't fast enough to read/search the harddrive in the pace that Atomix demands.
 
Check the level on Windows mixer(wave) before starting atomix.It always defaults to max. which sounds distorted to me.Reduce it to 70%.Keep your eye on the gain/level as anything above 50% can distort.
 
BTW process all your MP3s to eliminate corrupt files and normalise them using utilities like Autowave from www.hitsquad.com
