Topic: The Evolution Of The Setup

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

Well I thought I'd post some pictures of the new setup, since no one on the board has seen the new setup yet. You may or may not remember the pics of all my setups but I think I finally have the perfect layout. If you remember my last pics, I was using a triple tier stand, with the laptop and xp10 perched up on the 3rd tier. I did a lot of gigs with that setup but I think this is the best I've done yet. Here are some pictures:

Changes include:

* Now using single tier keyboard stand instead of triple tier stand

* Using Odessey Road Ready coffin case instead of Prodjcases.com coffin (the prodjcase did not protect my DZ1200 when transporting, very important).

* xp10 are now mounted on ABS plastic platforms, attached to 4inch pipe and standard plumbing flanges. The xp10 are attached to the ABS with velcro. The xp10 platform and flange unscrew from the shaft for transport.

* Laptop sits on a custom platform made of 3/4 inch MDF and covered in black carpet.

* Entire setup, everything you see in the picture, can be taken into and out of the gig in one trip. This is a big deal for me with as I do a lot of gigs.

* Entire setup can be up and running, VERY fast from the time I begin setup. I would estimate 5 minutes tops! This is also a very big deal. 90% of the connections are tied and secure - even when transporting there is no stress on cables or connectors. The only connections that are made on site are, 1 usb into laptop, 1 power into laptop (power brick mounted in coffin), another usb into laptop, 1 connection to each xp10 - and that's IT!

That's pretty much it. Don't expect any pics of new setup because I've done a few gigs with this and I am really liking it so I don't think it will change anytime soon. Comments are welcome.

Anewsome,

Congratulations... It's very clean equipment configuration. The mount of the XP10 are very good. I like this setup.

Awesome setup. Do you use amplified speakers or amp/speakers? Also, did the Lakers beat the 76'ers? lol

Lakers lost on a Kobe Bryant clancker as the clock ran out. I use amplified speakers. 2 JBL powered 18 inch subs and 2 JBL EON 15 powered speakers on stands. Very fast setup.

Very nice, thats my goal is to get a setup where i can just open the coffin and plug in a pc and BOOM! I was curious about the wires on the inside and how you handled all the plugs, i asume there is a power hidden inside and also what do you do for a master output to plug into the clubs system? Have a long RCA?

All of the cables. including power, are bundled together in stress free manner inside the coffin. This is needed since things will shift around and need some play. I wouldn't want a little movement to snap the ac socket of my DZ1200 for example. All power cords bundle together and form a snake that I drop over the back of the case (6 power plugs) and plug into a 6 outlet strip, which gets velcroed to one of the legs of the keyboard stand.

I actually have to carry all my versions of house sound cables with me at all time, all my gigs are different. I carry a long RCA cable (some barrel connectors and another long RCA just in case), XLR connectors and 1/4 inch TRS connectors. I use them all.

Popping the lid and turning on one power button and being ready to go would be nice but I don't think it's realistic for me. Just the coffin with 2 DZ1200, 1 mixer, 1 hard drive, 1 usb hub, 1 Maya 44 and cables is so heavy it almost required 2 people to get up onto the stand. A monitor, computer and xp10s would defintely make it impossible to toss onto the stand.

Very nice, You seem to be one of the most hardcore DJ's on forum :).

Did the firmwire update fix any of the issues on the technics?, I love the look of them, shame about all the critics really, they could of been the best.

The firmware update did absoultely nothing. Luckily, I only use the DZ1200 to control VDJ so all the issues that I hoped it would fix, really don't matter. I am still looking forward to the second model of the DZ1200. Hopefully they will make it better than the Denon and Pioneer players. Either way, I'm sticking with my DZ1200.

platinum ..
2 questions,

1st. Why do you use two controllers (BPM and DAC) at the same time?

2nd. You paid i guess a lot of money buying BPM and propably PCDJ Controllers and software. Which of the three softwares (including VDJ) do you use and if you use BPM (as in fotos looks like) why are you here? (don't missunderstand me i allways speak what i am thinking without second thoughts)

Thanks

@newsome:

Nice setup. I am still using a double tier keyboard stand and it is working out well for me so far.... someday I will Blog some pix ;)

Isn't it awkward to use the XP10's in that position? I am guessing that you probably use the Technic's most often, but then why even have the XP10's? Just for the extra buttons, etc.?

Inviato Tue 15 Nov 05 @ 4:41 pm
The Technics can't get me effects, cue points, pitchlocked tempo adjustment, pitch bend (grrr) or scroll and load songs. There are a whole bunch of things the Technics can't do. I use them for starting, stopping songs and scratching. That's pretty much all they can do. Everything else is pretty much done on the xp10s. Now that they are closer and I don't have to reach as far, I can do a lot better.
