I am trying to rip some music DVDs that I bought at Best Buy (Biilly Joel video collection) using "Smart Ripper". I rip my Promo Only DVDs every month and all works well but I cannot make these work! I am ripping using all the same settings except I added "DVD43" to unprotect. I can rip to .vob and all plays perfect in "Power DVD" but when I load the tracks in VDJ all audio is white noise(video shows perfect). Is there a better ripping way, Is it the copy protection? I don't mind going to Mpeg1 on this because they are older videos that were not great quality to begin with. Any help would be appreciated in regard to ripping or conversion.

Change the codec for vob to windows media player and see if that helps.

Kamakuakane may have hit the nail with the hammer UNLESS those DVDs are AC3 audio...
There's a lot on here about AC3 audio. I'd suggest that you find a program you like to convert the Audio in your videos from AC3 to LPCM...
I use NERO Vision... however, it does NOT convert to the preferred audio format... 44.1 Khz... it will put your audio in 48 Khz, which VDJ does NOT like...
Also, recently, I found that SOME divx files produce this "Static" that you are talking about.... as I downloaded the file, I can't claim the original format. I ran it through Nero into SVCD and it work'd FINE...
I also use a program called MPEG-VCR to covnert the audio in an Mpg file from 48 to 44.1... once done, it sounds GREAT in VDJ.
If you have more specific quesitons, please IM me/or Email me.

My experience with smartripper is that is a "you get what you pay for" program. Audio is super low quality, and video is blocky when mixing/scratching. I use no 1 DVD Ripper. All types of setting adjustments. I think it's $35 and it's the preferred program from what I see.

I have the vob codec set to windows media player and it plays both promo only and store bought dvd's without any issues. I use dvd decrypter to rip the files, no conversions.

What volume level do you have dvd decrypter set to? The default is 3. However this is too low for some DVD's and too high and gest distorted on others. Isn't their a way to have the volume level set to whatever it should be automatically like when you rip a VOB?

i use the default settings and have not had any issues when ripping to vob

Hi all,
I was wondering if somebody could tell me how to alter dvd decrypter to the windows media codec? I'm also getting the problem of vob files working in "power dvd" but coming up with an error in virtual dj.
Thanks.

Ok, I have now tried all of the resources and still no fix. Here is what I am trying to do and the results:
* Trying to rip "Billy Joel - The Essential Video Collection" DVD
"Smart Ripper: First time came out all distorted, Installed "DVD43" and all works perfect in "Power DVD" but when I load in "VDJ" I get video but all audio is snow(using internal video decoder) when I switch the extention for .VOB to Windows Media Decoder "VDJ" locks up and shuts down when I load a song.
* Tried using "DVD Decrypter" and got the EXACT same results as above
* Tried using "#1DVD Ripper" (tried MPEG 2, MPEG1, AVI, ...) and all came out with snowy audio(even playing on "Winamp"). It also kept giving me an error saying to select "force 24" in the settings, which I did and continue to get the error. Gave up on #1 DVD, It did nothing better!
Someone earlier stated something about converting the audio but I could not understand the process they were trying to convey.
Help!
Partyman
P.S. Because these videos are older and grainy to begin with I will gladly rip to ANY format that will allow me to use them in VDJ.

You don't alter dvd decrypter to the windows media codec!
Once you have made your files You have to alter Virtual DJ to play the .avi files as Windows Media.

Ok, tried the settings in the blog and all is good except one thing. I don't have an option for AC3 English 2channel, only 6channel. When I select the 6channel everything works but I get a sound drop about every 5 seconds. If I choose LPCM 2channel I get nothing but snow. How do I get the AC3 English 2channel Codec into #1 DVD Ripper.
