Hi, I've been ripping cd's using I tunes, however, none of the tunes ripped this way even show up on the VirtualDj file structure! I have many old mp3's that play quite happily, but none in the itues directory! Any ideas what itunes is doing to the files? (They all play fine in itunes of course!) Thanks

i believe PCDJ had the same problem. they had to bring out a special version to support itunes and drm maby itunes adds some type of protection like drm on wma and you need special coding to play these. whats the status on drm support anyway?

The trick I do with I-Tunes is to burn a CD of the recently downloaded songs - then rip the CD back to MP3 Format with a CD-Ripping App (I use C-DEX). the MP3's then do not have any copyright protection on them and can be played anywhere.

I too have encountered this problem. Simply retrieve the song license (if you haven't done so already...this is done automatically by Windows Media Player). Burn the song(s) to a CD-R or CD-RW. Then rip the songs from the CD using a program like FreeRip. Also, you may have to rip the CD on the same computer that contains the license(s) - once ripped you can transfer them to your laptop.

Ok got the answer! Itunes is set to default rip and download from Itunes store in the new MPEG-4 format, in the options menu, it is possible to select the format as MP3 instead. Then go to the track that has been ripped in MPEG-4 and right-click the track(s) in question, there is an option to convert to mp3. Out of interest it would seem you can convert from many formats this way! The tracks with Licences will have to be done via a CD as said b4, but home ripped tracks work well, except that it dosn't delete the MPEG-4 track, only makes a new MP3, so that the conversion takes up quite a bit of space! Thanks for all the help!

First of all any cd imported into I tunes can be coverted by simply right clicking the song title and selecting the option to convert to mp3. As for the protected songs which have been purchased there is a program called sound taxi. This program can be bought for about US $25. You simply either drag the songs you want to convert into it. Or you can use the program itself to import your entire I tunes library. This program will convert protected as well as unprotected I tunes songs. You can then choose where you want them to be displayed. Either in I tunes or windows media player.

This program should be able to strip the drm from iTunes purchased music. This method is better than the lossy transcoding method (i.e. re-ripping to mp3).
