I was hoping someone could help me resolve an issue with sound quality in version 4.2
I bought some TCV's to try out with the trial version to make sure everything works the way i want it to. Sadly this is not the case, the sound quality is very bad even on the highest quality setting. It's hard to explain, but it sounds a bit choppy. I also tried the 3.4 version and with that one it sounds way better. The only way i can get acceptable sound in 4.2 is if i raise the latency to at least 1024 samples which i don't consider acceptable. I'm using a maya44 pci card, so this shouldn't be a problem.
To highlight the problem i recorded the output playing a triangle wave and here's the result.
Without TCV the sound is perfect:

I already did that and pretty much all other advise and tweaks i could find on this forum, but nothing has helped so far.

Well, that depends on which waveform you're referring to?
If you mean the output when playing tcv's compared to the source, they look identical to the naked eye.
If you're implying that this has something to do with the level of the timecode signal, that is not the case. Everything seems fine there (100% quality).
In the example i posted here it sounds a bit like distortion due to clipping, but that's not what it is. I recorded a small snippet of music to try and make it more clear.
It is best heard if you listen to the guitar part.

After some more experimenting i think i have the problem narrowed down.
I tried installing the same sound card in another PC with the exact same results. I also tried using
the Asio Multimedia Driver which came with Cubase, and with this the sound is perfect (but not the latency of course).
My theory is that there is some sort of incompatibilty between the sound cards ASIO driver and VDJ since VDJ seems to work fine with other drivers, and the ASIO driver seems to work perfectly with all other software.
Is there anybody using the same sound card with good results?

Disco_Stu if your using gen2 tcv then turn off the riaa pre amp in vdj. You will probably get a fluctuating % but it should preform without flaws, the pre amp is not need on gen2.

Gen3 tcv are now out and are fantastic, a little thinner and has 1 min. markers for easier cueing, definitely worth checking.

I'm afraid that didn't make any difference, but you're right that it works without soft RIAA.
The distortion i experience seems to be linked to the buffer size somehow. It's as if there's small rapid pauses in the playback which causes a fluttering sound, and the frequency of this is proportional to the buffer size.

so you have constant audio dropping? like every 2-3 seconds? what pc are you using?

I'm fairly sure it's not a performance issue, the problem is persistent no matter what quality setting i choose. It's an Athlon XP 3000+ with 512mb ram, cpu load is not very high.
It's not really like dropouts, i would say it sounds like extremely short glitches but not every 2-3 seconds but maybe 10 every second. It's not dramatic but it's definately audible, listen to the samples i posted and i'm sure you'll hear it.
