do i have to own a mac book pro or will a simple mac laptop do a "pro"-performance too`?

What do you mean by "simple"?
Do you mean a MacBook, or do you mean an older non-Intel Mac notebook aka PowerBook?
I personally would venture to say that an older (but latest model '04-'05) PowerBook with a dedicated graphics and maxed out ram might run VDJ/VV okay video-wise and even better than a MacBook since they don't have dedicated graphics cards.
However, a major bottleneck of pre-Intel Mac notebooks (G4's) is that they have a very limiting 167Mhz frontside bus as opposed to the 667Mhz frontside bus that both the MB's and MBP's have.

I hope a G4 will do. That's what I have G4 IBook.

I think that VDJ/VV Mac will be a Universal Binary application, meaning it will run on both Intel Macs and at least the last model PowerPC Macs.
