Topic: playing mp4 issues...

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

I just signed up to www.my12inch.com which is fantastic, if you play hiphop and RnB you've got an instant collection of decent tunes!

The only thing is that they all come as mp4 files which the vdj internal video codec can't seem to decode.

I've got a fresh vista installation on my laptop now, so to get them to play I downloaded the 3ivx codec from their site http://www.3ivx.com/download/windows.html then installed it and changed the codec within vdj to "windows media", so now it works. Kind of.

The problem is that when I load one of the files, the video output freezes for a short period of time. With VOB files it sometimes freezes for a fraction of a second, but this freeze seems longer so I'm worried it might crash on me. :(

So the question is; what can i do? I can't really afford to upgrade my laptop at the mo, so that's out the question. But is there an alternative codec I could use maybe?

Or maybe I could re-encode the videos to a different format, any suggestions of what format or what software would be really helpful! The only thinig is I can't really afford to lose any quality since these videos are pretty tightly compressed already (about 50MB per song).

Or any other suggestions (even just to speed vista up) would be great.

Thank you! :)

its sounds if pc isn't up to the challenge. Did u have this problem b4 vista or is this your 1st time with mp4.

btw has my12inch uped the bitrate to 2000kbps yet?

I think you're right, it's a shame though because I can just about get away with VOB files!

I'm just looking at a file i downloaded the yesterday, it says the datarate is 262.68KB. Is that the figure you were looking for? If it is then that equals 2101.44kb doesn't it!?

I'm not really an expert when it comes to video, so let me know if that wasn't the right stat.

Is there a program where I could re-encode the video to either mpeg2 or divx and get half decent quality?

(Thanks to the dev team for sorting out the problems with playing divx files by the way! They work great on my machine now.)

I'm just trying out the tmpgenc now, see how the quality is. I tried an ImToo converter but the quality didn't seem that great.
