The DJ company that I work for uses Virtual DJ obviously. We use VDJ 4.2r1 and have just tried video on VDJ 4.3r1. We can play mp3 files for hours on end without ever worrying about the VDJ program crashing.
However, recently our Boss decided we want to try out our Top Hits RPM DVDs (tophitsusa.com) in VDJ after getting v4.3r1. He has problems so asks me if I can figure it out (I'm the tech guru for computers for us). So I load up our DJ program on our laptop and get the same problems.
When we load the VOB or MPG files (VOB files renamed as MPG, is all I've had time to try thusfar) the program will function fine for a few minutes. Suddenly we'll receive a Fatal Error and the Recover or Shutdown dialog. I've tried many variations of settings in the config and have searched for the error codes logged and found nothing.
The computer I am testing this on is an m9700 Laptop from Alienware:
AMD Turion 64 ML-44 2.4 GHz
2 GB PC 3200 RAM
2 GeForce GO 7900 GS 256 MB Video Cards in SLI
80 GB HDD
SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
DirectX 9.0c
Drivers updated to Dec' 06 versions from when Laptop was built.
The shuttle systems we use are receiving the same types of errors as my gaming laptop despite my laptop outperforming all of our computers. I would think that my laptop would have the horsepower to run video and such, and it seems to, CPU usage between 1/3 and 2/3 during video playing on one deck and loading on both. Yet it always crashes before a song will finish when playing videos.
Could this be a possible codec error that we have? Is it an error that arises during loading of the video file? Any help on this issue would be much appreciated.

Hmmmm, sounds like a funny one to me! So strange you get the same probs on a number of computers.
I'm kind of only guessing here, but maybe a good place to start might be to uninstall virtual dj, download and run the registry eraser tool (available from the "downloads>external tools" section), then re-download virtual DJ 4.3 (from the download centre link you get when you log in) and install the fresh version.
Just to rule out an error that might have happened downloading your current copy.
Also, you could get the latest version of DirectX, just to rule another thing out. The latest version is 9.c feb 2007 i think. I know having the febuary 07 or later version may make a difference.
Good luck.
Also, i'm afraid you'll need your boss's login details to get to the downloads.
If you don't manage to get anywhere on the forums, you could try dealing directly with support. There's a link under the "help" section of the website i think.

I would look also at the way you have ripped the video. If you are consistently getting the same results and the only thing new introduced is the Video file then there may be a problem with the file. Especially since you are getting similar results on multiple machines. A poorly ripped video or cdg file has been known to crash VDJ. Also, don't rename the VOB leave the VOB extension on the file, do you get same results?

One other possability....the boss is using a cracked version and leaving his guys flapping in the wind. I hope I am wrong but, its still possible.

In the VirtualDJ folder, you should have a file called "Crashguard report.txt"
Please open it with Wordpad (and not Notepad) and copy and past the info here.

We have a licensed copy of VDJ, I just don't have access to his account to download the new software, he just did a day ago. The latest Directx 9.0c I have yet to try as I have the August 06 DX. The VDJ I installed was immediately after running the Ghost Image of the computer as it was from the factory, still had the problems. Tried it on my desktop using v3.4 and the videos ran fine and no crashes occurred.
I'll try out the new DX from Feb 07 and see what happens there, though I'm not expecting it to really do too much at this point.
This is really stumping me, being a Web Developer and custom computer builder I'm used to trying to update everything and have it running smoothly, this is just a conundrum to me for some reason.
Thanks in advance for all the help again.

OK so it's always the same crash
CRASHGUARD
version=4.3.r12
thread=Scan
address=006b0635
ins=66892b83
excode=c0000005
The crash appears when the video is scanned to get the bpm, song length,...
If you try a manual scan (before loading the file on the deck), you should have the same result? Remove/delete the file "crashguard report.txt" from the virtualDJ folder and test again. I will send the report to the dev staff at the same time.

I didn't get a chance to try your test yet of scanning before cueing up the video file.
However, I recently managed to use Smartripper to pull out each chapter/music video from the DVD separate VOB files. I have cued up the entire disc worth of music videos, 25 in all, over a wireless G network connection and they are playing just fine with no crashes as of yet.
I'll try loading in the larger VOB file and see if I get an error that way. Also try testing other video formats as well to provide futher information.
