I have two internal hardrives, so i would like to install two operating systems (both vista though) so i can have one for just VDJ. I think i would need some help doing this though.

I can never find directx drivers for vista, i can only find XP ones.

Why does my maya config panel not seem to have all the same settings as everyone else, and some of the buttons in it don't work, for example i can't change it down from 32bit to 16bit, those buttons are greyed out and do not function.

I already have the settings set for performance. Before I was using the maya, i was using a cheap creative soundblaster with no problems at all. I only changed to the maya because i wanted timecode and this is where all my problems have started.

Can i add an extra operating system, or do i have to start from scratch and add two from the beginning? Also i only have recovery disks that came with the laptop, not an actual vista disk, can it still be done?

Ah . . . .so many questions, so little time.

First, you can't find Direct X update for Vista because there is no any since it is the newest Direct X 10 inside.
Your Maya settings.... As Cyder said, when you install Vista it automatically sets the sound to higher quality than in XP, I think 24 or 32 bit and 96Khz, you can find this in Control Panel>Sound. For start, set it to ordinary 16-Bit 44.1Khz and try config on Maya then.
You can install 2 systems, here is how you do it with original Vista DVD, not sure about that recovery:
You log on your existing Vista OS and insert the disc and than choose "New Install" and select another drive for Vista. Than, when you boot, you will have options which one to boot. You can change the name of Install's in here:
Right Click on Computer>Properties>Advance>Startup and Recovery>Settings>Edit Button and there you will see txt file and your 2 OS, just rename something like "Vista" and "Vista VDJ" and you are ready to go.
Hope this helps.

Well i just tried going into windows sound set up, and the maya is already set to 44.1 cd quality, interestingly though, the box is greyed out and no adjustment can be made here either.

I just saw a maya44usb asio driver which looks like the one Simon had, with the extra features, but apparently you have to pay 60 Euros for that one.

Confused.

I just installed the maya driver on my desktop, which is running XP and it has different config options like you guys have, and i get an icon in my taskbar for the maya control panel.

I don't get any of this in the vista version. It seems its different.

With all the problems with sound cards i guess its a good thing that i found u all before i just went out and bout one. I still running a ole 32 bit sys. gigabyte 8E and a 3.2ghz p4, 4-160gig ide drives, 1gig ddr2 800. But the intergrated audio is 7.1 surround sound.

Right now im just doing standered track by track on cd by hand and im tired of the work out.

The pc is up to the job but dont think the audio is, and since im in the midwest with a bunch of country folksand there not into the beat match and all the bells and whisles ( but I am) but dont know a thing about all that.

Was looking at vdjpro and a rack mount controller (dac2) but think i might just upgrade now for video in the future(dac3).
Would also like to incorperate the lightshow into it so that one less thing that i have to do manually

Well you should start a new topic off with your problem, otherwise its going to get very complicated! I don't mean that to sound rude, but it does make it a lot easier to get help.

Well after a fresh install of VISTA & VDJ, i do seem to have better performance.

I can use music and video with the performance tab one down (across) from highest setting, so i guess i should be pleased with that.

I can't decrease the latency of the maya driver though, or i get distortion.
