there's ripping vinyl softare that comes with virtual dj or virtual vinyl, but I can't use it properly because it doesn't come with a "help" tab to show you how to use it

i use it too and it works okay for me...
the only thing is that have to start the turntable, then press record and when it's finished you press save... then it takes a while to store the track as mp3 on harddisk - proabably of encoding into mp3 format... would be cool to have a statusmessage after track is saved to to the next one...

maybe i have the settings wrong on my "rip vinyl" how do you set it up??

Back when it worked for me, I chose my sound card, removed the check for software RIAA preamp (I was ripping cassettes), and chose the bitrate (320 is best). I then hit "ok", clicked on 'rec" and clicked on "save" when I was done. However, my ripvinyl no longer works, for whatever reason. I now use Audacity to rip my cassettes. Works great. If your turntable has a built-in preamp or if you run the signal through a separate phono preamp, Audacity should work just fine. Just make sure to have audacity find the LAME encoder, if you plan on exporting the ripped file in an MP3 file format.

how do you use audacity to "capture" the mix you are creating to record it??

I haven't used it in that capacity, but I could. I would just use an output of my mixer into the soundcard input and treat it the same as the cassette signal.
