Hey guys.
I've just got Virtual Vinyl from Numark to review and I figure this is the best place to ask questions.
1. it's running poorly on my 1.67Ghz G4 Powerbook. Am I screwed before I even start?
2. What are the actual differences between VV and VDJ?
3. Can any of the other downloads like skins be used in VV?
That'll do for a start.

1. Whats running poorly? The MP3 portion of the video portion. The video card on the powerbooks isn't enough for VV (as I understand. MP3's should run fine though.
2. They say there are no differences betweent VV and VDJ just a different skin. But you do need the VV box for timecode.
3. There are no plugins or skins avaliable for the MAC version yet. Supposively coming soon...

Just the audio element right now. To get a decent latency, the sound breaks up badly. To get a good sound, I have poor latency. And even at best quality, the audio is still not as good as it should be.
Essentially, I feel my G4 can't cut it. The processor is maxing out even when idle. But Traktor Scratch, Torq and Serato work just fine. I just need for somebody to confirm that the G4 platform is supported and then I can spend time optimising my system rather than wipe it clean, strip out the chaff, only to find out that the G4 isn't supported.
For the record, I'm running a 1.67Ghz 15" Powerbook with 1gig Ram on 10.4.9.

Although Virtual Vinyl is a Universal Binary application that will run on both PowerPC and Intel Macs, it is a multi-threaded application that will definitely see performance boosts in dual core Macs.
Besides the fact that you're running it on a single processor, lower performing Mac, you need to take into consideration all the other limiting factors of that PowerPC Mac like the 167Mhz frontside bus (Intel Macs have 667Mhz and 800Mhz coming up with Intel's Santa Rosa chips), slower system ram, inferior (to Intel Macs) video card, etc.
I would say that the Mac that you are using probably isn't going to produce the desired results that you want and surely won't show off all of the great features that VDJ/VV have to offer.

Although I'm not on the dev team here at Atomix, the reason I had originally decided to stick with VDJ (on Mac using BootCamp windows xp) and wasn't too concerned with converting over to Virtual Vinyl was because VDJ supports multiple midi controllers and all the great Atomix staff and VDJ community developed plug-ins like skins, sound effects, video effects, etc.
However, I was lucky enough to get a Numark Total Control software midi mixer and Virtual Vinyl about 3 weeks ago and it's a GREAT combination!

Those should start becoming available for Virtual Vinyl Mac soon.

Warm welcomes to Scratchworx..
Good too see you around here.
The MAC version is the first ever release for that platform, while the PC version have been around for years. There might be room for improvements, and they will come, to the mac version.
Still, it should be running quite good, and feel free to ask to get things sorted.
Try adjusting settings in Performance Tab in VDJ until you get a setting that works good for your Mac :)

The .zip files for skins can be used both on Mac and Windows but currently zip files are packaged in an install file (the one when you download skins from our website) which only works on Windows for the moment (.exe) . Sorry for the incovenience.
Currently, you can unzip the skins on Windows and copy the .zip files on Mac then.

i too am having difficulties with vv. I am using turntable cd players though. I have 2 denon dns3500's. I find that i get a audio "chirp" sound when playing the music back. Here's the odd part, on the vv sound card, there is a switch for "phono" and "line". If I use "phono" then I don't get the bad audio however, I cannot use the funtions on my player...just the spinning platter. Manual says to use "line" for cd players...so i did, everything works fine but the audio just sounds horrible. Any suggestions?

how much signal quality %
big or small waveform
big or small waveform
Inviato Fri 18 May 07 @ 10:22 pm
jumps back and forth from 100 to 80 back to 100 then maybe 75 and big wave forms. when the audio "chirps" is when the quality % jumps down

ok try choosing autolatency on performance options
if this doesnt work
sounds like the signal might be to loud
some cd players have a much higher default volume than others and this distorts the signal
try downloading the vdj timecode signal
http://www.virtualdj.com/products/timecode/VDJTimeCode.mp3
and using an audio editor lower the level by 13db then burn a cd and try now
