Topic: Saving information after analyse?

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

I know that the analyzing files on MAC has been addressed before, but I think I am missing something.

I recently got a mac, so I installed the mac version just to mess around... I use my PC laptop for all of my gigs, as I pair it with a Serato SL1 now, and that functionality isn't yet here for mac (I am praying... haha).

Anyhoo, on the pc, after you analyze the files, you never have to do it again. It saves the bpm/length, and displays correctly. Today, I analyzed my files on the mac, and restarted. Nothing. The fields were back to the filename, and not the ID3/analysed BPM.

Am I missing something here? The files I am analyzing are all videos, mpg encoded, there is no audio files on my mac. I have 150-200 videos on here, so it isn't feasable to sit for 1/2 hour while it analyses.

What am I missing? I checked all file permissions, settings... anyone???

Thanks in Advance.

Aaron.

Bump.... anyone??

it is nessary to analize them once by ticking the analize bpm when builing a local database

Yes. I did this. But...when you close the program, restart, or it crashes...anything... the information is gone, and you have to "re-analyze".

I'll ask the teamers to look into this.

That would definitely be very annoying.

Sent.

Thanks for the help!

tnx i will see what i can discover

ok go to the folder documents and remove

virtualdjdatbase.xml
and virtualdjdatabase(user).xml

and start vdj

analize what happens

Tried that... nothing.

Now I am getting this error though...

ok looks like they need to add the action to restore a database like on windows

replace the files

try analysing in much smaller chunks

say 5 songs at a time and create a save database shortcut

in the options and try saving the database after each chunk

Yeah, I was only testing with 5-10 files.

Am I missing something though, how exactly do I "save the database"? There is nothing under the "Config" section.

look on keyboardshort cuts and add the action

save_database with the shortcut of your choice

Nope, still nothing.

I tried mapping it to a number of different shortcuts, analysed the same 5 files (with both House/Techno & Any Music) and still when I close, and re-open, I get the same error message.

I went ahead and tried re-installing VDJ, after wiping it out with AppZapper, and I am still having the problem.

My system is fully up to date, and I am using the most recent release of VDJ. I am just trying to get these little problems ironed out, so that when Serato SL1 support becomes available, I will be ready to roll, and I can finally leave my PC at home :-)

OK....

Here is a new thought. The account I use, and most mac users should use, is not an administrator account. I use a standard account for my day-to-day and DJ uses, it is just safer.

Therefore, the VDJ folder that resides in "Documents" under the "Home" folder, is Read Only.

Could this be causing a problem with writing the "save database" function?

I will move a few of the videos over to the admin account, and try it there.

Nope... that didn't work.

Not only didn't it work, but VDJ will not even load under the administrator account. It gives the same "Internal Database is Corrupt" error.

Here is my thought, and suggestion from Mac development experience.

It seems that the VDJ application itself resides in the general applications folder. The database, which it seems to install only for the user whom installed the application, exists in the user's documents folder, which is protected from any other user accessing it.

I know there is a way around this. When you install Microsoft Office for Mac, the actual applications are installed in the Applications folder, just like VDJ. However, each individual user's settings are stored in the Documents folder (again, just like VDJ).

I am not sure exactly how to do this work around, but it seems like a permissions issue I am running into.

My next step is to install the application as administrator, and test it that way, with the administrator's permissions.

I strongly believe that this is something that needs to be cleared up though for an official release.

Yep... installed the Application as Administrator, and analysed the files. It saved them without even mapping and saving the database.

There is definitely a HUGE permissions issue here.

I think I remember though, that if a user is granted permission to install an application, and the application creates a folder that it will access, the permissions can be adjusted in the installer when creating the folder for the application to use.

This should be simple to address.
