Topic: Video Crossfading with external mixer crossfader

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

Hey guys.

I just got my hands on Virtual Vinyl and I am trying to use the crossfader on my Numark DXMPRO to control the video transition fader. I have gone through the manual and followed all the instructions but I cannot seem to get it working properly. I find that when I try to crossfade back and forth between songs that it will occassionally switch the video signal but I cant seem to figure out what I am doing to actually make it fade.

Can someone please explain to me:

a) What is the best settings to have in order to use an external mixer to control the video fade?

b) How does virtual vinyl detect an audio crossfade from the mixer? - I desperately want to know the answer to this so that I can at least understand how it is supposed to work

c) Is it actually possible to get precise video fades when using an external mixer's crossfader to control the video fade?

Looking forward to some feedback.

Thanks guys!

Flago

Hi,

I wrote you a really good reply earlier this afternoon, but it's disappeared!

Basically, I'm pretty sure the DXM pro can't do video crossfading because you need a MIDI controller to do that and the DXM can't do MIDI.

I can think of 3 options:

use keyboard shortcuts and the mouse; can be ok, CUE can do automatic crossfades if you highlight a video transaction. I can give more info if that's what you want to try.

buy a MIDI controller; the cheapest is the hercules dj control mp3, but there's loads of others (see skyfx's "ultimate controller guide" on the forums). On these you can set the crossfader to fade either the video on it's own or the audio and video as well. (CUE has different crossfader curves you can set for scratching)

buy a new mixer which can produce MIDI fucntions; either Ecler NUO4, Pioneer DJM800 or Allen & Heath Xone 3D. Same thing here, use the crossfader for just video, or video and audio.

Let us know if any of those options sound interesting and I can post some more information.
