I guess it depends on what the client wants. Also depends if you are working a private party (like a wedding) or in a club/bar.

I know people in the bar I work at have no problem with me using the microphone when I get on the mic and say "Ok... any girl that dances on the bar gets a free shot." LOL

Agree totally.
HATE mic jockeys.

If you can't rev people up with the music hang it up, your egotistical razzle dazzle shit makes the rest of the djs look bad as a group.

Will you pahleeze shut the hell up and play the music...

Didn't read everything in the thread, but...I don't usually talk on the mic. No I won't give your girlfriend a birthday shotout, No cheezy shoutouts to friends! It takes class away from 'my' atmosphere.

On the other hand...I have played quite a few events with a hypeman/MC. Everytime I have its been a hot party. Nothing like having a good hypeman claiming your name after a sick mash/mix with a ... oooohhhh! Getting the crowd to do the same.
