Virtual Dj versus Rane Serato Scratch Live. XP10 versus pro cd players(Numark cdx, Pioner cdj1000). This is my dilemma.

I have been monitoring this forum for a while, reviewed the VDJ program and waiting to purchase it once the XP10 came out. But alas the XP10 came out and there has been no buzz about it. This is not good; I am beginning to think the XP10 may not be as great as was hyped. Can't the management team or XP10 users /owners produce some useful "video" of the XP10 in action, with scratching, juggling etc. Yes I have seen the limited video on the "EKS” website http://eks.fi/ and I have also seen the video http://www.freewebs.com/djnorway/video%20dj.rm made by "spindem". But some prospective customers need much more convincing if the will purchase your products (XP10 and VDJ) considering the competition on market.

Serato Scratch does not have a demo so I can’t really compare it to VDJ to much but the VDJ interface does look better. VDJ is also superior to the other pc dj solutions I have tried.

On other forums such for the numark cdx and the Serato scratch live, the users of the products have made video of their products in action. The users I was dead set on purchasing the xp10 but now I dont know. I am leaning toward VDJ plus the time coded cd to use with a pro cd player.

I whole point is I am rooting for VDJ but you guys need to set it up a few notches. Get some video out there with VDJ using time coded cd/records, because I have searched lots of dj forums but there is absolutely no mention of VDJ as a dj solution only Final Scratch(even though is has a lot of bad reviews... but it is it well known) , Serata Sratch Live, pcdj, mixvibes ...etc......

VDJ team step up your game. I'll be watching u.

PROPECTIVE CUSTOMER..

No clue what would convince you, but if you have access to two turntables and an external mixer, it seems a quiet low investment to try out VDJ + TC vinyl.

Jspinner,

I myself was having the question of buying 2x XP10 with VDJ or Pro CD Players. I have chosen for VDJ becuase of the many mp3's I got in opposition to CD's. Yes its possible to control VDJ with cd-players, but function is limited. If you have vinyl players they are a good add-on to select VDJ with the timecoded vinyls.
So consider yourself this :
- Do I usually spin with Vinyl , CD or MP3 ??
- What functions do I need from the device (backspinning, scratching, teardrop, looping etc) ?
- Am I going to become mobile with it (club usage) ?

My reasons why I bought the XP10 and VDJ is :
- I have more MP3 than CD's
- I make regular use of the effects and functions of the XP10's
- I am going mobile with it and all I need to bring are 3 or 4 flightcases (mixer,TFT screen, PC and 2x XP10)
Offcourse a laptop would be nicer, but more expensive also and more sensitive to errors.

If you're trying to decide between a laptop rig and a CD-based system, for me the choice was simple:

1. I have about 800 CD's that I use regularly. They are in a very large case that weighs nearly 30 kilos. That's JUST the CD's, and no extra equipment.
2. I have all the songs from those 800 CD's on my laptop right now. Even with my fairly large (8 pounds!) laptop, all the music PLUS all the extra equipment I need to plug into a PA at a club weighs just under 5 kilos, and is small enough to fit in the overhead bin on a plane. I don't use the XP10 or anything like it, but if I did, the weight would still be far less than for the CD's.
3. A Laptop rig is more-or-less future-proof. No matter what changes happen, you'll be able to keep using your laptop rig by making minor adjustments and upgrades, whereas the CD system would require you to buy all new equipment, and try to sell the old at a fraction of what you paid for it.

A few months ago, I used to say that I 'll never use a PC to mix ... Now I put my Gemini CD in the underground!

It's the future !!! And for sure VDJ is the best one.

The evolution of this soft is amazing and would change a lot in the future I think.
The PC must be adapted after a few months years but the CD raders too.

One more thing:

What made me choose VDJ over the other programs, and this may sound silly, was the overlapping waveform graph. I think it really comes in handy, and was enough to make me buy VDJ, even though I could have gotten one of the other programs for free.

JSpinner, get both... If equipment isn't provided at your gigs, you may want to bring a backup system (just incase your laptop drops a big one on ya).

Jspinner: “Virtual Dj versus Rane Serato Scratch Live. XP10 versus pro cd players(Numark cdx, Pioner cdj1000). This is my dilemma.”

There is no dilemma in my opinion since VDJ is so inexpensive. The other alternatives that you’ve mentioned are much more expensive. Furthermore, consider all the options VDJ gives you to control the software:

http://www.virtualdj.com/products/hardware.html

You also have the ability to use a CD player as a controller (scroll down to “Utilization of a TimeCoded CD”): http://www.virtualdj.com/products/timecode/

Here are many other incentives to buy the product:

Consider VDJ as a SMALL investment into the INFINITE future of DJing.

At present, and from the first release, all updates are free. It's a wonderful point, isn't it ?

At every update we can see that the new features are those wanted by the VDJ users in the forum. It's anoither wonderful point.

VDJ has (almost ?) all the features that others softwares have. Another good point.

Users can write a skin or a plugin and a lot of VST plugins can be used. CD players are +- locked with the hardware.

VDJ is the best investment; that's sure.

Of course an external table or a console is better but VDJ is the first thing to obtain (with the PC of course ;-)).

Post every question you want about the product and everybody will try to solve your problem.

Wonderful world ...

Recentely i've concluded that VDJ is the best "dj" solution!, period.

No matter what arguement someone throws at me, VDJ always wins hands down.

That is VDJ combined with a good external mixer and controller..

I'm glad your realising it too...

Looking forward to having you as a “Professional edition user.” Although you are making a “SMALL” investment, that investment will bring you “INFINITE” dividends.

Trust me its the dogs danglies. Ive gradually evolved my usage from ejay mixstation to mixstation 2 and now to the full product. Not only is the software very versatile enough to use as a simple twin decks, but also a full on mixing tool. Updates & patches are free and the support is second to none. Last week Ihad to replace thehard drive on my laptop----software lost. Within 2 hours of using the support tab of this website I had a reply and my account had been updated to re dowload the software. (and it was a Sunday) Thanks to DJ Cayote for such prompt service.

There's alot to consider and think about. I would, if its possible, try before you buy on most anything. Find someone local who has the VDJ setup, SSL, or the many other Digital Vinyl Emulation s/w & h/w thats out there.
