True, it will give you better quaility true..
Specially if you go high res. S-Video is analogue and can only do 400x300 pixels, and is a bit blury (not noted much on video playback though, but on text it is)
VGA to component video is better, and can go higher res.
But you can start without the box I meant, if you want to test your setup. You can use the S-video out to TV for testing.
And if all works good, get a VGA to component converter.
Many (or even most) LCD's and projectors dont need that converter though, as they have VGA inputs.

So VGA to VGA will work and perform the same as VGA to COMPONENT? Not sure if the TV at the club has VGA inputs, but I can check next time I go up there.

But if your club's tv is a 52" LCD (if I got you right), I bet it has VGA input. If not, get a converter ;)
And VDJ license too ;)
