I just want some clarification of the issue of DirectX.
I'm looking to purchase a new notebook, and I have options of NVIDIA 8700M GT 512MB (DX10) or NVIDIA 7950 Go GTX 512MB (DX9)
I found the following information about the 2 cards:
In the current mobile market space, rock is able to provide two high-end graphics solutions. The Geforce 7950GTX and the new Geforce 8700GT. As their names suggest, we are offering cards from two generations of NVIDIA graphics; the 7 series based on DirectX 9 technology and the 8 series which is based on the latest DirectX 10 offering.
The 7950 will outperform the 8700 in most games available today the 7950 features faster core and memory clock speeds. However, as dedicated DirectX 10 titles become available, the 8700 will be required to display new graphical features of the game.
In short; choose the 7950GTX for today’s fastest performance and the 8700GT if you are more interested in DirectX 10 future proofing and still excellent performance in today’s standards.
My question is which card is more suitable for VDJ. Does VDJ utilise DirectX10 or would i be better of with the faster DirectX 9 card? I will be using Vista.

First the DirectX for those cards simply means they are designed to support those DirectX environment specifications.
Windows Vista - supports DirectX10
Windows XP - supports DirectX9.0c
So, if get the DX9 chipset and run it with Vista, you will not be able to take full advantage of the Vista DirectX10 engine as the card is only tested and designed to DirectX9 specs.
Now if running XP then DirectX9 is the highest engine available to XP, so if you get the chipset designed with the specs of supporting DX10, then you will never get the full capability of the card because the XP engine is only DirectX9.0c
So -
Running Vista - NVIDIA 8700M GT 512MB (DX10)
Running XP - NVIDIA 7950 Go GTX 512MB (DX9)
So that you can take full advantage of what the cards offer.
