How do i encode in mp3?

1°) If you want to rip from a CD:
=> You need a ripper program like Cdex
Here is the link, and this program is free: http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/
2°) If you want to rip from a vinyl:
=> Use Ripvinyl provided with VirtualDJ
=> But you have to install first an encoder like "Lame" (probably the best ... and free).

Jeets, are you talking about encoding a mix in MP3? If so then in virtual dj all you have to do is make sure you have Encode in MP3 selected in the plugins tab. I am not sure about the other programs but I'm sure that it is pretty much the same way. BTW if you are trying to rip from cd that CDex program that clax is talking about is great.

Ok guys, please explain to me how to install the Lame encoder. The files that come zipped in the download include a lame.exe file but when you double click on it you see a dos window flash and then nothing. Whats up with that?

@clax, it's available for free... but apparently.. MP3 encoding isn't free anymore, there's a whole host of programs that require you to pay money to 'unlock' the MP3 encoding (soundforge, winamp.. and probably more...)
I'm not saying don't do it cause its not free... im just throwing up more of my useless knowledge of things. now if only i could remember the things i learn at uni....
