Looking at virtual dj's search method and other software search methods, there are two ways of searching for something.
Search Mode: Direct
The search criteria must exist in any one field. if the name of the file is "track03.mp3", artist is "Mustard" and title is "Ketchup" the user may serach for "ketchup" or "mustard" or "track03.mp3". but the user may not find this file by search of "ketchup mustard". Thus the name Direct. a direct search of text query.
The good thing about this search method is it's power to provide a shorter list of songs, therefor making it easier to find the specific song.
The bad thing about this search method is that it makes it difficult to find certain songs. This version of search method already exists in Virtual DJ.
Search Mode: Matrix
In matrix mode, the search criteria is a combination of multiple filters seperated by a space character " ". Thus when searching for "ketchup mustard" the search filter will first find all songs with any one filed containing "ketchup" and then filter out that search result with any one field contaiining "mustard" thus the name Matrix. search query with in another search query. The good thing about this is that it allows room for more errors in search text. The bad thing about this is that it provides too many results and would require a new column for sorting by relevance. Most music applications use this method for search.
So far, Virtual DJ had allowed us to search in direct mode and search with in "filters". I consider being able to search with in filters to be somehow a matrix search.
My wish for a new feature is the option to choose between search modes: "Direct" and "Matrix with sort by Relevance"
