I apologize if this has already been discussed, I could not find it doing a search, and if it is, would someone please point me to the right direction to look?
Basically, I started DJing roughly 8 months ago (still very amateur and newbish), all radio broadcasting, and I think I have that down pretty good, but lately people have been asking me to DJ for parties not using the radio, but on the fly playing.
So here is my delima, How do I do this? I mean, I have a laptop, I have Virtual DJ, I have my music library, and I have speakers, but, of course A) I can only have speakers plugged into the laptop and not headphones as well to listen locally, and B) I don't want them to hear what I am working on cueing up obviously. The first party I DJed, I got lucky, and was able to stream through the web (I have a shoutcast station) and hooked up 2 laptops. One I DJed on and one I used to stream the music (I know ghetto, but it was all I could think of on the fly), but most places may not have internet connectivity and that just seems kind of lame to do it that way anyway. Next I thought, well maybe I can stream locally. IE: setup one computer on a local network using Virtual DJ, and another computer using say Winamp to stream it out to the crowd, but that does not seem to be an option through the broadcast options.
I saw something mentioned of a 3 way mixer I can buy maybe? where I can have both external speakers and a headphone plugged into, while attached to my rig that I use Virtual DJ on. (not sure how true this is). The only other thing is maybe having 2 laptops, both running VDJ and I kinda simulate on 1 laptop while the other does it all live. (also seems very lame in the setup)
Please any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Ok, the answer you are looking for is very simple, Hercules RMX is a very good start, will allow you to broadcast out to speakers and let you monitor through headphones. There many other options, if you are just looking into mixing and monitoring off your computer, you will need a external soundcard (RMX already has one) and a mixer (again RMX).
Hope it helps. PS Register you serial and you will be able to dload many goodies... [;-)

I use to have the same problem. I have the perfect answer for you. It may not be the best and most expensive but it works great for me. All I had on my laptop was the headphone jack out and you can either connect speakers or headphones, correct? I bought this cool inexpensive USB soundcard and the main sound comes from it (regular 1/8" jack from card and red/white RCA to mixer). Your headphones then connect to your regular headphone jack. When you open VDJ go to the config / sound set up. Leave input as none. Output to headphones (shows a speaker and phones). Sound Card (s) to 2 (shows phone jack and USB card). Top soundcard to USB sound device. Bottom soundcard to whatever your internal card is. Set output channels to MASTER: First card / HEADPHONES: Second card. Just remember when your messing with your pc at home without this usb card in you have to change it back. This config allows you to cue music in headphones while main is playing on the other deck This entire set up will set you back $30. Yes thirty us dollars! There are way better sound cards out there I know but this works for me at the moment. And I know there are some dj's out there that carry these as back ups!
Here is one web site it's on:

Good luck!
PS: You can tweak the settings in config to switch pfl on load and other thing. VDJ did a great job on this.

you could use the other laptop to stream on a local network to another room in the house the next time you have a house party :)
