Topic: USB dropout, strange problem but annoying

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

Well, so: my soundcard drops out, let me paint you the best picture i can.

Computer:
- AMD Athlon64 x2 TK-57 1.9Ghz
- nVidia GeForce 7000M (integrated graphic card with shared memory - I know: not ideal but i don't do video and i never had trouble with this)
- 2 GB RAM
- 160 GB HD

Soundcard:
NI Audio 8 DJ - latest drivers

Now, i'm at my student's home, and it's quite an old house. The power lines are not the most modern of them all, but i've had this happening on gigs too, so it's quite annoying.

Let's explain the issue.

Everything is working great! DJing, mixing etc: VDJ is working flawless. Then i turn on a fluorescent lamp. I hear some crackles in my sound, but afterwards everything is fine again.
That is: until i turn it off. When i turn it off, my soundcard just gives a "pop!" and no more sound. If i restart VDJ it works again, but my CPU usage is probably 50% higher then before.

Now: I'm not an expert on this, but this is a power issue. Is there anyway i could 'isolate' this somehow? Would it help if i used a ground loop isolator? Some feedback would be appreciated.

OK after some experimenting i came up with this:

If i touch the ground connection of my soundcard and my central heating (which is always grounded), my soundcard doesn't drop out anymore, it simple gives a small click. This might be the solution. Just posting here for other user that might somehow experience the same problem :)

EDIT: not 100% effective, but seems to decrease the problem.
