Fine as long as there is no light beaming directly onto the screens. As you caan see, in the pics, there is quite alot of ambient light in my living room. It was 8am at the tiime with the curtains closed.... Much brighter then most clubs I play.

haha funny you mention the mirrors. i got a piece of plexi glass mirror material and built a small pvc frame for the projector and then i have the plexi in front of the projector that shoots it back into the screen. increases the size pretty well for shorter distances.
Can you post a pic of your setup with the mirror. I am interested in using this setup. A lot of places its a hassle to use a projector.

@djDAb: VERY nice setup. You've got the gears in my mind working now.
@others: If you are going to use mirrors, I have a tip for you... First off, you will get a better image using a first surface mirror; no ghosting. You can get a decent size front surface mirror cheap if you don't mind a bit of garbage picking. Those 'old fashioned' projection TV's use them for the same purpose as we are discussing, bending the throw to make better use of space. Whenever I see a projection screen at the curb, I break out the screwdrivers and pliers and extract the mirror. I have gotten a few already and supplied extras to other VJ's already. Most of the TVs have a glass mirror, but occasionally you will find a mylar mirror which I love because it is so large and light; unfortunately it is very fragile as well. I have torn a couple from mishandling already.
The best times to find these TV's at the curb are right after Christmas, right before SuperBowl, and during tax refund time.
You can also buy front-surface mirrors online, but they are generally very small and relatively expensive.

Sharp SVGA (800x600) resolution
Bright 33 Lumen LED light source
1GB onboard memory + microSD reader
MP4, MP3, AVI, JPG, WMV decoder
Projects up to a 80" image*
*(In low-light conditions)
VGA, RGB, iPod, PSP, PDA, DVD input
33 lumens seems low but the demos on the site show that it gives a good image and DJDab's images look good.
No keystone correction and the limited resolution could cause issues. Great option for the right applications and the price is right.
I like my NEC VT540, it's old but you can't beat a 15' diag. image on the side of a garage that the whole neighborhood can enjoy.
Thanks for sharing DJDab.

Considering the throw is only a few feet, this 33 lumen projector is actually as bright as my 1200 lumens projector at a 12 feet distance. Also 800 x 600 is actually really high for a Pico projector. It looks sharp.... plus it's one of the few Picos with a VGA in.
I might upgrade to a laser projector, when they become available and have enough lumen output.
Hehehe... The last couple time i played out I used them and a had the canvas screens behind me, mounted to a wall and facing down at the crowd and a lot of people thought I had mounted flatcreens / plasmas to the wall. Of course there was a lot of drinking going on but hey, I did pull it off and it looked great!
Cheers,

Good to know, I feel that I need more lumens output than only less than 50 that this kind of Projectors give. Led are very good option, led give you up to 50 times more life than classic lamp proyectors.

Here is a video I made of how I made my small space projection system. It was a prototype design and works very well still.
The same idea I used when I built my 737 cockpit simulator in my garage...just scaled down abit.

You have some nice hobbies ;-)
Seriously though. Great design, light and easy to re-configure if need be.
The idea of building the screen out of pipe and spandex is really cool. Very light weight and easily portable. Would easily sit on a tripod with a top hat fitting...

The acrylic mirror demensions are about 19W" x 12L (at work right now.) but its aprox. You can also slide the projector forward or back to enlarge or shrink the visual at the mirror plus you also have the zoom feature and keystone effect to work with on the projector.
What I did was set the pvc stand with the projector on and reflecting off the mirror up against a wall simulating where my screen frame will be and adjusted the picture and size to what I wanted and then lightly traced the image size on the wall. Then measured and cut and glued the pvc together to make my screen frame.
did you get all that..???? primative but accurate.. hey .who knows! you might come up with a better design.

I've built a rear projection screen using pvc for the frame, it works very well. It's about 60" x 72", works great in bigger rooms and outdoors.
I've been considering adding a mirror to shorten my throw and maybe building a smaller screen for use in smaller rooms. Your video is great, I really appreciate you sharing your ideas.
Where did you get the acrylic mirror? I checked with a local supplier and a piece cut 24" x 24" is $56.00 which isn't too bad but I'm always looking to get out for as little cash as I can.

Just since people are talking about the different projectors available, here\'s the one I use:

It\'s an NEC WT615 (and the WT610 is the same), and the cool thing is that you can have it less than two feet in front of the screen. Not cheap but I managed to pick one up on ebay, and if you do a lot of work in smaller venues it\'s pretty nice. The picture\'s fantastic on my 80 inch roll up screen.
