I made a mix last night just messing around with the program. Basically, it was a hiphop mix with some vocals and piano and horn samples a long with the added effects and samples that come with it. It was for like an hour and 20 minutes. I hit the broadcast button, and it said it was broadcasting. Then at the end i stopped it and it gave me a url to listen to my mix, but when I went to go to the URL no page comes up. Where do our mixes get broadcasted to, and how do I find mine?
Thanks for any help.

I think I figured it out in the one forum there's The Guide to Internet Broadcasting with VirtualDJ" That explains a lot. I think i was trying to broadcast to my own server not an external one. So, I fucked up and couldn't even save my mix. Well, I still can't get anything working here. Do I broadcast to a radio server? VirtualDJ is a login, but there is no password. Which option do I choose I'm using wireless and not blocking port 8000.

Broadcasting is not the same as recording - broadcasting works the same as it does on TV and the Radio, i.e. you send your stream live.

I know that already. I hit the broadcast button, but I don't think I have the right settings in, or it's not setup correctly.

That's most definitely not what your first post implies. What are you trying to achieve?
Inviato Fri 16 Jul 10 @ 5:19 pm
I agree with Andrew what are you trying to do?

I am obviously trying to broadcast a mix over the internet. You know stream it over so people can listen to it.

It honestly sounded like you were trying to record your mix and did not know where it gets saved to. Some points to mention: if you "stopped [the mix]" naturally the broadcast would stop and any link would not work...
If you are behind a firewall/router you will have to forward port 8000.

Well, I tried again to broadcast today and then listen to it while i was broadcasting, and it wouldn't connect at all. I guess I am behind a firewall, but port 8000 is not blocked. Say I broadcast from my own computer where is the broadcast streamed to? It just gives me this URL to listen to it, and it never works. Also, what about broadcasting to a radio server like virualdj's radio server can i do that? Do i need to sign up, or do i need to start a shoutcast broadcaster account. I have an account already, but i am not a broadcaster on their site yet.

You don't stream the broadcast anywhere unless someone connects to you. When you broadcast you act as a server, then if people connect to you, your computer sends them what you're broadcasting.
You can broadcast to other servers (relay servers) which have the capacity to stream to hundreds of people at a time such as Virtual DJ but that involves using the "Broadcast to a radio server" option, by default Virtual DJ broadcasts "from [your] own computer".
If you are broadcasting from your computer, the following address (which will work only on the broadcast computer) should produce an ogg/mp3 stream: http://127.0.0.1:8000
The address which Virtual DJ gives you is your ip address (the address to reach you on the internet). That may work for you too, but if other people cannot access it you are behind a firewall/router.
Are you using the latest trial?

Oh, okay I see. I see the broadcast to radio server option, but it gives me a login and pw, and i don't have the password. The login is VirtualDJ. There is a blank space for genre too. It has my IP as the server connection. I need the PW i think for it to work. I am using the VDJ 6.1.

To use the broadcast to server option you must have the ip address of a relay server which is accepting connections; typically you will not have this information unless you rent a broadcast server or are involved with an online radio station.
It sounds like you do not have a relay server to broadcast to; use the broadcast from your computer option instead. (edit: I removed a mistake I made about the login).

Oh, I see like Shoutcast Radio. If i can get on a station with them. I dled the broadcasting tools they have on their site and i am ready. I am not quite sure how to use it yet though. Um, ok so I can use the broadcast from my computer option though, and people will be able to listen to it? I may have to port forward port 8000, but I will do that later. I should be able to listen to the stream while i am broadcasting right, or else I am behind a firewall?

The shoutcast components you downloaded aren't needed as Virtual DJ's broadcast option integrates them already. You only need the shoutcast components separately if you want to broadcast without Virtual DJ, e.g. when mixing with turntables or maybe even just having a radio talk show using Skype.
You can use Virtual DJ to broadcast and you should be able to connect to your own stream (http://127.0.0.1:8000 should definitely work). Connecting by your ip address (e.g. http://216.202.222.83:8000) may work but it's best to get a friend to test for you. If it does not you will need to forward ports.
I'm guessing you use a wireless router or some sort of router to connect to the internet (i.e. a device which allows more than one computer to connect to the internet at a time)? Port forwarding is necessary because the router doesn't know which computer it's supposed to contact when people try to connect to your broadcast.
You don't need to port forward when connecting to a relay server as you are not the server but unless you plan to rent a server you're probably going to need to forward ports.

Yeah, I tried broadcasting again, and it definitely is not connecting. I got someone to try and connect to it and they keep getting an error message can't connect to server. So, I gotta port forward on the router computer. Well, that's great i downloaded that shoutcast junk. I guess i'll just hold on to it..lol Thanks for the help I am going to try broadcasting later and if it doesn't work I am just going to record a mix.

Broadcast option = live. After broadcast ends mix gone.
Podcast option= save. After podcast is finished mix can be retrieved.

I'm sorry, but you bought up a 7 year old topic. It's OK to start a new thread that is relevant to today's version of the software. Please think about that the next time that you have an issue, thank you.
