This is for you fellas and ladies that use a 2 deck controller with 4 decks. How do you adjust volumes, gains, effects etc, etc......... Let's say you turn up the volume on deck 1 and need to turn it down on deck 3, now when you switch over wouldn't the volume blast the moment you touched the volume fader?? There's things like that that I just can't get my minds eye around.
Thanks for any info and your time
Huey
[Edit]
Did this get moved and if so why to the PC section wouldn't this be Hardware?? Could of swear I posted in the General section??? What's going on here?

You are right and this is the reason i bought VMS4, but what else can you do. This is not a real 4 deck setup.
But you can do this..
Aparently you dont mix deck 1 and deck 3. So lets say you mixed deck 1 with deck 2. Deck 1 has to go, deck 3 to come up.
Instead of swapping decks using just the deck 1 leftdeck etc...you can use a more advanced action.
deck 1 leftdeck ? deck 3 leftdeck & deck 3 select & deck 1 volume 0% : deck 1 leftdeck & deck 1 select & deck 3 volume 0%
I cant figure out a better way..
Huey, i thought you had a 4 channel mixer or not?
Ps. Hardware or Software Forum ..doesnt matter, we are here !

Hahaa, your right I do have a 4 channel mixer. I was gonna try to take the cheap route. But as I can see its gonna be more headache then its worth to me, lmao!! So it looks like I will end up buying the VMS4. Not really sure though cause the way I have it setup now just seems way easier then using a controller. Know what I mean. Just sucks lugging a huge coffin around, lol! Right now I have all 4 decks loops mapped and decks 1 through 3's effects mapped (well 2 per deck) and I have control of each decks volume, gain etc, etc.....maybe some cdj's is what I should be lookin at............
Well you've given me more to think about DJDAD, Thanks for the time and any suggestions you might have are greatly welcomed!!

Huey, the volume issue depends on whether or not the control is an endless encoder (EE) or a rotary slider (RS).
After delving into scripting (for the Mixmeister Controller), it appears that VDJ alters the value incrementally (or decrementally) depending on which way the endless encoder is turned. Which is unlike a rotary slider, that as soon as any movement is detected will send it's absolute value to VDJ.
So:
If you use the EE to set the volume of deck 1 to 100%, the switch over to deck 3 the EE would then affect the volume of deck 3 based on the current position of the volume on deck 3 - so if deck 3 was at 60%, any changes would be made based on that value.
The advantage of endless encoders is that they just send an relative position message (+1, -1), whereas rotary sliders send an absolute position (0 - 100)

Hmmm.............Simon that puts things in better perspective, Thanks. Ok now for the next question, can you give me a list of controllers with a lot of EE and buttons.
Thanks for the time and info.....

I know. It's kind of a painful experience trying to operate the 4-Deck mode in VDJ 7.0 on a Hercules DJ Control Steel (obviously a 2-deck hardware device). Unfortunately I switched back to 2-Deck mode in VDJ because to date I've tried quite a number of mappers to see if I could make 4-Deck mode work with relative ease, but to no effective avail.
I praise anyone who has a 4-deck supported controller. To them I say, have fun. What great times we live in today to be digital deejays. :)

@ Huey...a list...phew...Whilst I'm aware of many of the controllers, I'm not certain I'm qualified to give a list :)...but I use the following:
DJ Steel - Virtual DJ 6 & 7 in 2 deck mode - I'd love to have the MIDI map so I could create a 4 deck mapping (although there are already a few).
Numark NDX800's / Behringer DDM4000 - Virtual DJ 6 (I have a mapping issue with V7 and my dual NDX's). The DDM4000 is not used as a midi mixer.
Numark Mixmeister Controller - Virtual DJ 7 in 4 deck mode.
As far as controller with the most endless encoders, knobs and buttons...I'd have to say, of those I've tried, the Numark Mixmeister Controller offers the most control and adaptability. It offers 40 endless encoders (9 of which are stepped - notchy type), 60 buttons (some combined with encoders) and a jog wheel (which is actually a endless encoder).
I've created a device and mapping file (currently pending review with VDJ), that offers a huge range of control over 4 decks in Version 7 - send me a PM with your email and I'll send over the control list PDF.
The mapping I've created gives you 196 different controls (remember this is a 4 deck setup so there is replication) and 37 LED indications.
I'll have to do another video...but i fear it would be so long it would bore people to tears...lol

HOLY COW!! Simon if that Numark Mixmeister had a crossfader and soundcard or a way to hook up turntables or cd decks that would be so mine!!
Thanks for everyones input

Huey, I know what you mean...I've mapped the crossfader to a knob (with a shift function for fast crossfading), but it's not the same as a real crossfader...
I had a mind to ask someone (that understands electronics) to swap out the knob that's mapped for crossfading for a Pro X-Fade or similiar and build in the DJIO I have kicking about, but as I don't use the crossfader (I tend to use either the channel volumes or eq's to bring in and out), I thought it was a waste of money and the DJIO isn't that big (and also used on another setup).
I'm sure that if someone at Numark sat down they could use the MMC as the basis of a very adaptable 4 deck MIDI controller.

Sounds to me like maybe Numarks Research and Development team need an email...........maybe even a concept picture of what we want, hell there almost there now. A few tweaks to that thing and its good to go.
