i am trying to set up my headphones but i dont know how. I have a desktop computer and i have my speakers plugged in to the back of my computer. I also have another green plug-in jack for headphones in the front of my computer. i think my sound card is 4.1 or better because i go to control panel>hardware and sound>Realtek Hd Audio Manager and under speaker configuration i can choose 4/4.1, 5.1, or 7.1 but i dont know what to do. Can anyone help?

Most modern desktop PC's will normally have a 5.1 or better sound card built-in as standard.
To use it in VirtualDJ for headphone pre-listening, you will need to plug a pair of stereo speakers into the output for the front left/right speakers and your headphones into the output for the rear left/right speakers (Both of these outputs are on the back of the PC.)
The headphone output on the front of the PC cannot be used because it will output all surround sound channels either mixed down to stereo or with a virtual surround effect applied.

if you're using the realtek or creative or similar sound drivers for 5.1 or 7.1 sound setups you can usually go into the sound card's software and choose what you want each specific jack to do so you can set up your outputs however you want and then cfg VDJ to follow the correct paths afterwards. i use the gray for my alternate jack (it's a default 2ndary out on my soundcard). then just make certain you've got the correct vdj settings, test and enjoy.

I'm using a Kam Digi mini with VDJ, and also struggling with headphones?
If I select the 1 output, 1 headphones option I get no sound in the phones, If I enable my kam controller in the realtek audion manager I get sound and phones but 'mono' output to my speakers?? Help please...
I'm using a laptop, Digimini, and routing the sound via my mixer (just one channel) to the speakers so that I can utilise a microphone channel too. Sound is coming from the laptop to the mixer via the headphone jack in the laptop, to the line in on the mixer.
Basically I'm wanting to get the set up right for mobile DJing and will be using active speakers.

i just gave up on this and bought a USB external sound card. It seems alot easier to set up headphones that way. i found it cheap on ebay, i should be getting it in about 2 or 3 days.

just remember one thing. anything worth doing is worth doing well and putting in the time and effort. i get a lot of compliments on my shows because of how customized and setup everything is and how orchestrated it all is. don't give up if you have trouble with the new sound card. sound cards are one of the least appreciated and least pursued pieces of pc hardware in the industry. the user interfaces and programming for the setups for them suck compared to what users have been asking for for years.

If I buy a four output soundcard such as the numark DJ io, will I get actual stereo to my speakers if I run two channels on the mixer? At the moment I can only get two channels in mono, but I can use my headphones then in the mixer.

Yes, the Numark DJIO will allow you to output two decks separately in stereo to two channels of your mixer.

Yes i truly agree with you on that, but i recently got Virtual DJ Pro 7, and im eager to get some headphones to try and do mixes. Ive been wating to DJ for a very long time, i cant afford real gear since im only 17 so VDJ is all i have right now, which i think is an excellent Software.

a lot of mixes are preconfigured and rehearsed ahead of time and you can simplify your life by setting some loop beats on your sampler deck at various bpm that way you can play a 95 bpm song, loop a 95 bpm sample beat and crossfade from one to another track that's about the same tempo. this works well on tracks with fair outro/intros. i rarely use my sampler for more than drops. what i do is manually adjust my EQs as I crossfade from one track to another. if you're looking to scratch mix though, set your cue points and configure your mix/playlist ahead of time and practice the mix a few times until you feel comfortable with it at home. there's a fairly good mix guide here but if you wanna free-mix on the fly relying on inspiration, skill, and hope... the headphones'll help but the results from the practice imho outweight freestyle scratching more often than not. good luck to ya though! we do need plenty more scratchers these days and very few can pull it off without looking foolish.
