Hi im new to the world of virtual dj and mac .i just want to know how i can start off just buy using the basic software first before i start adding hardware. I recently bought a macbook pro and i want to know how I set this up with VDJ using my headphones to mix and using an amp to listen . I have 1 headphone port 2 usb ports and a thunderbolt port, which one of these do i use to connect to my amp and what connections do I need to buy [standard amp not power amp] ? I appreciate any help anyone can give.

Well not 100% sure about what kind of Amp you are referring to at this point. Are you talking about a Headphone amp or speaker amp?
You are limited with what you can do at this point until you get either a controller or external sound card. With the MAC you can use the headphones to listen to your mix without going to any speakers. This is by far the easiest way to do it. If you must listen to it through speakers AND headphones you will need:
1) A "Y" headphone Splitter.
It totally depends on the speakers as to what connections you need from there. There are many choices:
1) 1/8" to 1/4" Y Splitter
2) 1/8" to Composite Splitter (Red and White typically)
3) 1/8" to 1/4" to XLR

What version of VDJ are you running? LE, Home, Pro, etc?
you can do it with the headphones, you don't need anything else and for that matter if you are using Home (Free) edition the headphones is the only thing you can use.
The Cue will split and you will hear Cue in one side and Output mix in the other side.

You cannot use it with a controller. You can split your output like I said before and go into anything you want but you can only use the software interface with no controller.

A lot of people love the MixTrack Pro its a great controller, but I prefer the Hercules RMX for beginners. Its what I started on and its an amazing controller, priced right, and terrific sound card.
You will not be disappointed if you get either one.
