HELLO--- in reference to my last post----for some reason when I go to sound set up I can't access my configurations, but keep getting a message sayin my soundcards not connected or settings aren't right. I've tried to reset VDJ to factory, I tried reinstallin my controller. What should I try next ???

Please verify that your settings are set correctly for the sound card that you are using.

If they are set correctly. then this means that there is a problem with the driver. Download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website and then install them again. Make sure that it is always connected to the SAME USB port. Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Typhoon.html

Also, if you are using Vista, then you may be experiencing the well known MIDI bug in the operating system. Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/MIDI%20controller%20stops%20working%20with%20Windows%20Vista.html

Thank you for your help, reinstalling the AsioTyphoon updated version seem to do the trick............knock on wood..
Is there anyway for me to get some type of notification when something like this is discovered, cause I would dread something like this happening in the heat of the moment..?

There is a Wiki page containing detailed information on configuration of controllers as well as common problems and solutions: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Controller%20Configuration%20And%20Troubleshooting.html

And there is plenty of support/help available both through our forums and support: http://www.virtualdj.com/contact/index.html

If you encounter problems with any hardware device on your computer, then the first step should always be to check for and install any available updates from the manufacturer.

You should also always test any new software and hardware at home first before you go out and play live with it. Making a major change to your system just prior to going to a gig is not recommended. With any computer-based DJ system, make sure that you always have some sort of backup device that you can fall back on in an emergency (E.g: CD player, iPod with pre-made mix on, etc.)

NOTE: The majority of users do not usually have any problems. Normally these are caused by conflicts with other devices, out-of-date drivers, etc.

MIDI controller stops working with Windows Vista
Last edit by jpboggis, Atomix Productions on Wed 15 Jun 11 @ 6:06 am

[Edit]

If you are using Windows Vista, you may find that your MIDI controller suddenly stops responding and can no-longer be detected, or it re-appears in the mappers list as Simple MIDI Wrapper.

Unfortunately MIDI support in Vista itself has a bug which will cause the driver of a MIDI device to crash and stop responding if too many MIDI messages are transmitted in one go (E.g: Excessive scratching or spinning of the jogwheels.)

This problem is more likely to occur on MIDI controllers that have high resolution jogwheels or advanced display screens.

The best solution is to upgrade to Windows 7 which does not have this problem. Windows 7 will also give you considerably improved system performance over Vista, which is a very 'bloated' and resource-hungry Operating System. Or if you have an older computer, you may wish to downgrade to Windows XP instead.

Some MIDI controllers have workarounds for this problem in their firmware, such as the Denon DN-MC4500 and Denon DN-MC6

????? Is this the only solution, could there be another way?????

If you are using Vista and your controller has no firmware workaround, then unfortunately the only choice you have is to either upgrade to Windows 7, or if drivers are available for you computer and you have a license for it, downgrade to Windows XP.

Unfortunately this is a bug in the Vista MIDI stack and there is no solution for it. Vista is also a very bloated operating system and you will get far better system performance overall by upgrading to Windows 7.

NOTE: If you do upgrade, a clean installation from scratch (Format the hard disk) is strongly recommended (Backup any important files, your music collection and your VirtualDJ database first.) Then only install the software that you need to DJ. Don't re-install all the manufacturer's unnecessary bloatware.

NOTE: On controllers with lower resolution jogwheels, this is not normally a problem (They don't send enough MIDI messages in one go to crash the Vista MIDI stack.)

I just bought idj3 and it comes with virtual dj LE. it said to download the appropriate updates at www.numark.com/idj3. So I go to it and it says firmware update. Stupid me i click it and it screws up my whole Mixer. When i plug it in now, Cue A and Cue B light up along with both keynotes. When i simultaniously press the two cue bottoms, the buttons that were previously lit up turn off, and the Autoloop 1 on the left side is the only thing lit. I just got it two days ago and havent even been able to mix a song. I tried deleting the software and installing it again but nothing. is there any way to reset everything back to the default settings.

PLEAAASE HELPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey wassup fam??? I have a quick question concerning this Midi bug that has my Vestex Typhoon not being detected on my Vista OS. I realize the solution to this problem is to upgrade to windows 7 but, I was wondering would I encounter the same problem if I used a soundcard on Vista, I'm just searching for alternate route until funds allow me to upgrade..... Thanks fam

If it's just the Vestax sound card driver (ASIO4Typhoon) that you are having problems with, then using another sound card should help.

If the controller is freezing altogether, then this won't help.

NOTE: The Vista bug will not stop it initially being detected and working (It's only a problem once the MIDI stack in Vista has crashed due to too many MIDI messages for it to handle.) If you can never get the Typhoon to detect, even from system start-up, then there is another problem with it altogether. Make sure that you have the latest version of VirtualDJ installed: http://www.virtualdj.com/download/updates.html - Also, try a different USB port in your computer and different USB cable. Make sure that you use a USB 2 port, not USB 3 (If your computer has USB 3 ports.)
