I have been attempting to get my head around mixing for a while now using the free version of VDJ. I have decided to take things a little more serious and am looking to get an external soundcard for my laptop to use with a mixer etc.
I have had a play with the config settings on the free version and somewhat unsurprisingly you can't run external sound cards without upgrading, fair enough really.
So, my question is, can I get away with running the basic version of VDJ (i.e. does it support the ASIO Drivers) or do I need to purchase the full pro version. The advice I have seen on the website and on the actual software is somewhat contradictory; the pop up on the software claims I need either basic or pro to perform the external sound card / mixer function whereas the spec on the website (http://www.virtualdj.com/products/comparison.htm)l says "Midi / Controller support" is not available on the basic version.
Any and all help / suggestions would be most appreciated !!!

VirtualDJ Basic does support multi-channel sound cards for use with an external audio DJ mixer. It also supports advanced sound configuration.
However, MIDI controllers and time code are not supported.
If you don't intend to use MIDI controllers or timecode (I.e: You will use your mouse and/or keyboard only), then VirtualDJ Basic is the best choice for you http://www.virtualdj.com/products/basic.html - You can also upgrade from this to the full Pro at a discount ($200 instead of $299) should you need the full Pro capabilities in the future: http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html
NOTE: A MIDI controller is NOT a mixer, even if it looks like one. It is a controller (Like a mouse or keyboard) and is not usually capable of performing any audio mixing on its own (Some higher end MIDI controllers also have a hardware mixer built-in, such as Denon DN-MC6000 and the American Audio VMS4)
NOTE: VirtualDJ Broadcaster is limited software and its sound options are limited (Same as Home FREE, except for the option of using a mic via the built-in sound card.)
