I have a Macbook Pro 2010, and an American Audio DP2 controller:
I need opinions.
1) I have read that the Mac versions of VDJ are a little more buggy, dont stream video as well, etc as the PC version of VDJ - basically the development is faster on th PC versions, and the Mac versions lag behind a bit.
True?
2) If so, Ive seen people use the PC version of the software, on a Macbook Pro running Windows 7.
Althought Im really a Mac person, if my Macbook is more reliable running the PC version of VDJ, Im ok with that if thats whet you guys suggest.
If so - how should i partition my Macbook pro in Bootcamp (this Macbook will be used exclusively for DJ'ing. only occasionally to go online to download a song from itunes.
3) Do i use an external drive for my music, or internal?
4) And Intel SSD drive seems to be what people are speaking well about in terms of file integrity, abuse, etc.
True?
5) I see its advisable to back up my music library regularly -
whats the best way to do this? And what kind of drive for that is suggested?
6) How should the external drive/s be formatted? HF+. HFS, FAT32?
Now heres an interesting final challenge:
I know that VDJ will "recognize iTunes Playlists" - which is great - i LOVE playlists
BUT what if I prefer to have folders of music setup in "playsist-styled" by names such as: Dinner, Hip Hop, Pop, Oldies, Rock, Swing, Country, etc....so that in the event of a laptop failure, and in an emergency, my drive would still be relatively readable by units with a limited processor & smaller display - like an MEP7000, NumarkDDS, Cortex, etc. Would be slow, but at least if the folders on the driver were in Genres (rather than the useless iTunes convention of "Artist, Album,Track", at least i could limp thru! Smart, no?
My question is - in order for VDJ to work and "recognize iTunes playlists, do i HAVE to have itunes and iutunes playlists, or can i make playlists independently in VDJ
Every ONCE in a while i might doenload a few songs from the iTunes store, and of course iTunes would put them into its own file system on my internal driver...but i would quickly drag the song from there - over to a new folder on my master external drive.
7) If the above is do-able, then I assume that within the Folders on my master library, that it would be prudent to name the songs like this:
BPM, Artist, Title, Genre, Decade, etc
Im basically confused about how to name the MP3 songs, so that the meta data is most easily readable by VDJ, yet ALSO by a unit like an MEP-7000 in a pinch if the laptop goes down...
And is there an APP that will name my tracks FOR me in the specified order above? BPM, Artist, Title, Genre, Decade, etc
This is gonna be a LOT of typing and ripping, and any help i can get would be awesome from CDDB or a helper "naming-app" would rock!
Whew!

If you want to use your External Drive to Save & Write files on both PC & MAC you should format your external drive to FAT32, but if you want to tag your mp3 in mac through iTUNE or Virtual DJ it doesn't records the data you have tags in the external drive which was formated to FAT32 otherwise you need to do your tagging in PC, or you have to format your external drive in native mac format which is MAC OS Extended (Journaled) to records taging if you do so, but again in this format you can not use your external drive in PC.
