Topic: Sound issue on some songs

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

I’m having sound issue on some songs when pitching them a few pct using keylock and advanced stretching, which is the setting that I’m normally using since it normally sounds the best

It usually songs that has effects used on them, like the intro of Rihannas “You da one”. I’ve used this song on the following tests

I’m running a test setup without a controller, using a NI DJ2 soundcard, and doing the keylock advanced stretching pitching (in real life to do a nice beatmix). The sound crackles a lot and is close to unusable. If I drop the keylock everything is fine, and if I reset the pitch (using the function, not just moving the slider) the problems stops too. If I don’t use the advanced stretching I don’t get the same issue, but it doesn’t sound nearly as nice and is kind of wobbly. When the intro of the song finishes, and the sound becomes less effect’ish the issue seems to stop, or at least it’s not nearly as noticeable

I’ve tried chancing to all possible settings of latency on the newest version of the soundcard driver, but the issue is exactly the same. I’ve downgraded the soundcard driver to an older version with the same result. I’ve also tried all the performance settings in VDJ itself and the issue is the same

I’ve then tried the exact same setup on my backup laptop, which is older with less RAM and another brand, but it’s exactly the same

I’ve then tried using the internal soundcard and a splitter cable (moving away from ASIO), and the issue is the same, even though it may be slightly less noticeable – but still close to unusable

Finally I’ve converted the song from 320kb MP3 to wav and back to 192KB MP3, but he issue remains

I also own Traktor Pro 2 (even though I prefer VDJ). I’ve tested the same MP3-file using the same laptop, the same soundcard and the same sound card driver, and using the “note”-button/keylock function and pitching in Traktor Pro 2, and it doesn’t have this issue

Is this a known small glitch in VDJ, or am I setting something up in a wrong way? Is there anything I can do about it?

Best regards
Klaus Mogensen

These sort of problems are normally caused by performance or configuration issues with your computer and/or VirtualDJ.

Please see:

http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Performance%20Issues.html

Which version of VirtualDJ are you using?

What is the specification of your computer? Advanced stretching has much higher CPU requirements than fast stretching, but the advanced stretching in VirtualDJ v7.x should work OK on a computer that meets or exceeds the recommended specifications on the page: http://www.virtualdj.com/products/virtualdj/index.html

I'm using version 7.0.4b and the laptop is a DELL dualcore 2ghz laptop with 4gb ram running windows xp with the latest patches.

The backup laptop which has excatly the same issue is running version 7.0.3 and is a Lenovo single core 2ghz laptop with 2gb ram running windows xp with the latest patches.

I believe I've tried disabling everything one thing at the time, and atried optimizing my main laptop. The backup laptop I haven't touch much, except disabling all network

What I find strange is that both laptops/setups only have the issues on specific songs. So I was wondering if this was a know glitch in Advanced Stretching when running special song patters like the beginning of "You Da One", Advanced Stretching beeing a fairly new feature and all

And of course I really want to use Advanced Stretching since it sounds so much better than the old one

Best regards
Klaus

What about with the latest v7.0.5b?

v7.0.4 and v7.0.3 are both old and out-of-date versions.

Also, exactly how much do you increase (Or decrease) the pitch by? And what version of the song is it (If not the radio version), so we can try and see if we get the same results. Please post a short audio clip if possible.

What are your settings in CONFIG -> Performances?

I'd like to step in a say the same problem has existed with me as well.

I bought the pioneer Ergo and wound up returning it due to this issue. I also just purchased the Denon mc6000 and the problem decreased, but is still there... Yes, I can here what you hear on Rihanna's song, or lower volume intros.

My computer if fully optimized. and once again, NO sound problems with Hercules DJ trim 4+6 or HS500 or Internal PC sound card. Although, the quality ALWAYS drops with time/pitch stretching on. At home, it sounds fine. But at the club with higher volumes, you can totally tell when I switch from CD decks to VDJ during a mix.

But yeah,
- Software up to date
- Latency checked and surpassed
- Windows 7 optimized for background services.
- Fast / Advanced time stretch (Makes No Difference). Turned off makes a huge difference
- Fast Skin Re-size
- Fast 48000 resample / Or advanced (Makes no Difference)

- Decreasing latency to 431ms seemed to help the crackling a little, but still there.

I was told to check out the demo of the other software brand for Denon MC6000 to see if I can hear an audio difference. Will check Friday when I back at the club.

Just tried to replicate the problem at home so that I can record a sample... Mysteriously, the crackling went away. ARG.

This one is going to be hard to pinpoint

Some users do have problems with the ASIO drivers for the MC6000.

If you're not a scratch DJ, try using it with normal Windows WDM drivers instead. Please see: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/DN-MC6000.html (Windows WDM audio instead of ASIO section.)

Thanks for the link

Mine is worse, especially at more then minus 5% pitch

I've tried all newer VDJ versions including 7.0.5b, using both ASIO and not, on multible computers with multible soundcards

So in my opnion it got to be some sound patterns that advanched stretching doesn't handle so well, or which needs hardware configurations on the laptop way above the suggested

I'm getting a new laptop in a few weeks, moving from XP to windows 7 64 bit. Maybe more power in the hardware or the new OS will help

To be honest, better hardware would theoretically work... But I'm already using a work horse Laptop and a Quad Core I7 950 desktop computer. I get the same results no matter what computer I'm on.

I got the new computer, and it's still happening on maybe 1 in 20 songs, even though the computer is top of the line

On the other hand advanched stretching sounds much better than the old version on the 19 out of 20 songs

Oh well... Let's hope advanched stretching gets even better in the next version
