Tayla, you are so right. One of the problems in this industry is so called DJs, not showing for a gig. Does not help us one bit.

@pseft, What is 300 hunge?

that was a typo... its HUNGIE... its short for hundred, it gets used a lot in poker

ill read the rest later... gonna play some poker now

if you're not book that day/night, and he wants $180 worth, he will get my One Speaker and an MP3 player and nothing else.

i love the jog on.... "sven... what are you doin" "a well"

oh yeah i was meant to put 3 not 300 lol

i asked my god bro what did he use that night... he said, he got his mate to do it with a laptop via windows media player... this was a launch season football (aka soccer) function like a formal nite. i have that type of music for shows like that, like going from jazz, cocktail and swing.
he never called and i lost another gig from him. iv deleted his number from my fone, and i don't give a rats ass.

From my experience I would have tried everything to save the gig.... and in the end I would have probabley taken the gig if I had nothing else gaurrantied. Why? It's a better deal than doing a "non-profit" for free to only be told that you can get extra work from this non profit event... I did that years ago and never got any calls for paying events. I dont do non profit gigs anymore for the last 25 years. Like all the DJs here I need to make an income. Now, buy an add in the local newspaper or flyers or other advertising venues and it will cost you a lot more than 180. Be smart and use his event to promote the hell out of your business and you may get a really good response from it. I have not had a business card or website or advertising in 20 years. I'm busy enough from word of mouth because I put on the same quality work for 180 dollars and 1000$. Every DJ has to bring the same amount of equipment as you and I and he will find someone for 180 who will do it happily. Some DJs do it for the 15 minutes of fame and others as a hobby and then like me as its a passion and full time business. You gotta take the bad with the good but use both to get more business in the future. For fun last week I googled wedding prices in the uk and usa wedding forums and was shocked by the prices people payed their DJ. $100 to 450$ was the average. And the comments about the DJs were very positive. You have to be the best salesman to to get what you think you are worth. If you are not a good salesman and do it as a hobby be happy with what you are offered. I have many years under my belt and all my jobs are only word of mouth. It took time to get to that point in my life. I did a wedding for real cheap once and I got atleast 5 full paying gigs from that one I didn't make much from. Be creative and it will pay off !!!

Like DJs, I can find mechanics and electricians to fix my car, etc for free or really cheap. Everyone has a different level of passion for what they do in life. I got my taxes done for free this year. I tried to pay my friend but he rufused. I pass on their names and cards to others so they can make good coin if they like. Thats their perogative.
