Sites such as Crooklyn Clan have classic, 70's, 80's sections etc where many of the songs you'd need for such an event have been "redrummed" for the purposes of smooth mixing, so it would be an idea to stock up on these for traditional beatmixing and blending. Of course full blown remixes shouldn't be off the table either, not every remix goes dutch so look out for some of the funkier and disco orientated remixes, many were made in the mid 2000's.
For those tracks which you can't get alternative remixes/DJ edits for I'd consider methods such as:
1) Droping in with hot cueing, you can drum along yourself with a hot cue and switch off the chorus or a break.
2) Beatmix the best you can, ride it out but make the transitional window short, so both tracks only overlap for a few seconds to the listening audience, it's similar to a cut but should be smoother
3) The same as above but you could run a high pass filter over the outgoing track which will quickly hide any beats going off whilst sounding like a deliberate and cool effect, don't overuse though.
4) Create a manual loop of the playing song and do a loop out effect, dropping in the next track on beat as your loop is fading out.
Just a few methods I'd consider, but there's hundreds of methods when you put mind to task, really you have to make the best judgement you can based on the two tracks you're transitioning, if no perfect method comes to mind consider changing the incoming song.

"do you love what you feel"-chaka khan/"do ya"-swv and then you can bounce around with different songs/eras i do it all the time and the people love it. if you need help with samples/songs go to youtube and look up "dj funktual" his top 10 sample series is KILLER

well so far ive got loads of stuff on my playlist, all sorts of stuff. all the stuff i listened to throghout the 80,s and what my mum danced with the vaccuum to and more. i have a feeling im probably gonna put out an awesome set. the only problems i have really is the transitioning, but as mentioned earler it doesnt have to be a perfect beat matched flow and can be cut, dropped etc so i think im good to go, needless to say ill be practicing somewhat over the next few weeks.
