I'm new to this program so how would I record a mix I am currently playing? I see the record button but tried and nothing happened.

Hi, I wasn't able to find the thread on the net and I'm new to this as well, I tried to record a mix which I think I did but when I tried to listen to it, I wasn't able to open it.
I saved it in my music files on the laptop after just pressing record next to the effects button so I'm not sure what else to do, it just says error, can't open, can anyone tell me how to sort this out?
